@Robotbeat I regret that NASA took no equity when we invested in SpaceX 20 years ago in the COTS program. Had we done so, I don’t think NASA would need Congressional appropriations any more!
@NASAAdmin@SciGuySpace Among the concerns with this approach: 1) Commercial market can’t mature when ISS gives it away for free. 2) Many PAMs will skim the cream from the sovereign crew market, leaving little for CLDs. 3) Forces CLDs to operate at ISS orbit which increases cargo logistics costs.
Vast was featured in a recent episode of Business Daily from the @BBCWorld that recaps the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2024. The episode explores how public-private partnerships are shaping the future of science in low-Earth orbit, from pharmaceutical research to human health.
Our CEO, @maxhaot, shares how we are working to build a future that enables long-term human habitation in space and how Haven-1 is a stepping stone to accomplishing that goal. Additionally, he shares how commercial platforms, such as Haven-1, can help governments advance space research. Listen to his interview below.

@TRHLofficial Glad you’re a SpaceX fan! I was one of the first, helping lead NASA’s investment in SpaceX nearly 20 years ago. It has truly sparked a revolution in space access. Go Starship!!!
Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad. Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years. This is where former President Obama refused to honor his commitment of protecting the RED LINE IN THE SAND, and all hell broke out, with Russia stepping in. But now they are, like possibly Assad himself, being forced out, and it may actually be the best thing that can happen to them. There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid. In any event, Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!
With the new NASA head @rookisaacman coming in, and @DOGE looking for input, here is my paper napkin plan for what I would do with NASA if I had a magic wand (disclosure: I will never have this power and nobody really cares what I think, but I love, and once worked for NASA)🧵
Gene, after two days and about 50 negative replies, I was going to let this pass. But after reading some of your responses to the comments, it's game on.
SpaceX wannabes have been claiming Elon was going to stick Gwynne or Gerst or Kathy Lueders in as NASA Administrator. Now President-elect Trump chooses someone who is already a commercial space CUSTOMER and wants to open the space frontier to all.
Jared is not SpaceX's tool. SpaceX has been one of his tools. Do you really think Jared doesn't want OTHER TOOLS as well? Do you really think Jared is just going to send money to SpaceX and not work with Blue, Rocketlab, Axiom, Vast, Astrobotic, IM, Redwire, Planet, Varda, Radian, New Frontier Aerospace, etc...
Jared is an entrepreneur. He doesn't believe in monopolies or oligopolies. He believes in competitive free markets. You have zero evidence that he wants to hand Elon more control of the launch market.
I totally get that you don't like SpaceX's dominance of the U.S. civil/commercial space marketplace. But that's a result of SpaceX competing and winning, not political favoritism. Guess who else wants there to be more commercial space success stories... Elon!
Finally, we've had two politicians in a row at NASA. We've had lots of aerospace engineers and managers.
And we've had some great successes, a few bad failures, and a lot of mismanagement.
Perhaps it's time to try an entrepreneur. Someone who has had to raise money from friends and family and small investors, instead of just taking it via taxes and appropriations earmarks. Someone who appreciates that every dollar NASA gets actually came from a voter who deserves a return on their money.
And, at the same time, someone who absolutely has The Right Stuff.
@seanonolennon Sean, you are correct that radiation is an issue on Mars and the Moon too. Thus habitats there will require radiation protection by being under a protective layer. It could be underground or a think layer of regolith.
The Democrats, who claim to be all about health care have stood by watching other countries ban these poisons that make our kids sick. Enough is enough. President Trump and I are going to stop the mass poisoning of American children.
President Milei delivered a powerful speech at the United Nations General Assembly, boldly announcing that Argentina will break from its long-standing neutrality to actively defend freedom. He sharply criticized the socialist agenda driving the UN’s failed policies and urged member nations to return to the organization’s founding values, embracing the principles of freedom.
This is what true leadership looks like, and I am immensely proud to be part of his administration.
¡Viva la libertad, carajo!
