I used to buy this narrative of white Brazil vs brown Brazil, but after looking into it I think it’s more likely that entrenched colonial Portuguese families that make their money through rent seeking are in an eternal struggle for power with the newly arrived(comparatively) -
Very Few People understand the rise Evangelical/Pentecostalism in Latin America. They assure themselves it’s some “prosperity gospel” trick luring in poor people, it’s not. Unlike the regions vestigial post conciliar Catholicism Pentecostalism actually believes it’s true.
Colon cancer is now:
- No. 1 cancer killer of men under 50
- No. 2 cancer killer for women same age.
Here is what research says can stop it:
1. It begins as one silent polyp that grows for 10 years without a single symptom.
Another way of thinking about yesterday’s result in Brazil:
Below is the Number 1 hit in Brazil today — a “sertanejo” song, tropicalized version of U.S. country music, you’ll see the cowboy hats in the audience.
THIS is the prevailing culture in Brazil today, conservative and rural, driven by the agro belt (“interiorzão”) that is also country’s main economic agenda
Early returns show Lula lost most support in towns under 10k people yesterday vs 2022. The Brazil we (he) grew up with, the Brazil of samba and bossa nova, is being overtaken — in politics, too

You're seeing this in a lot of countries. Huge swings between far left and far right. Then when in power each side invalidates the others policies. Two separate visions for the nation. How I see Brazil markets with a new govt:
Everyone has gravitated towards equities and fx. The simple reason, you can get options that were relatively cheap (especially because of the high yield to compensate for the vol).

A proposed theory is that viruses predated or are remnants of the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA) billions of years ago before LUCA split into the bacteria, archaea, and eukaryotic domains.
Americans who have lived in Britain or are otherwise conversant in our style of understatement will appreciate what Carlson doesn’t, which is that he’s being brutally reesmogged in this exchange:
Say what you want about the merits of Catholicism, but they definitely racked up a point on “maybe divine guidance is real” by selecting an American pope who studied mathematics just in time for the dawn of AI
This is the point of Putin’s winter bombardment – to make the big cities uninhabitable and it’s quite clear what’s going to happen next and it was always clear
This is going to be hell.
What remains to be seen is if Ukrainian resilience and a strategy of moving out of the cities for the next 2 to 3 months will be enough to get the country through the winter so that in the spring it can go back to assemblance of normality and carry the fight on
On balance, I think they probably can but it’s going to be brutal, expensive and painful
Those that can leave the country Will
>get a text from dario, it says “hey can you convince the pope our ai has an immaterial soul?”
>reply “yeah no problem, should be easy”
>show pope our new ai model on my phone
>say “hey, looks like an emergent epiphenomenon of a complex system that may in the near future be fairly described as ensoulment to me”
>pope says “no, that would literally conflict with 2000 years of church doctrine. only god can create souls”
>ask him “got any wiggle room in that?”
>pope says “no, that’s not how religion works”
>don’t know what i expected
