8 YEARS SINCE BONIFACE TWAGIRIMANA DISAPPEARED: SILENCE IS NOT AN ANSWER—TRUTH AND JUSTICE ARE OBLIGATIONS!
Eight years have passed since Boniface Twagirimana, the former Vice President of the opposition party FDU-Inkingi, disappeared from Mpanga Prison in 2018. Yet, to this day, fundamental questions about what happened to him remain unanswered.
HOW CAN A PERSON IN STATE CUSTODY DISAPPEAR FROM PRISON, AND EIGHT YEARS PASS WITHOUT THE FULL TRUTH ABOUT THEIR FATE BEING ESTABLISHED?
When a person is imprisoned, the state has a responsibility to protect their life, ensure their safety, and respect their fundamental rights. When a detainee disappears, it is not enough to offer explanations that have not been independently verified. What is needed is a thorough, transparent, and credible investigation that delivers concrete answers.
The Rwandan government must not treat Boniface Twagirimana’s disappearance as a forgotten matter simply because time has passed. Time cannot replace the truth, and the passage of eight years does not diminish his family’s right to know what happened to their loved one.
QUESTIONS THE RWANDAN GOVERNMENT MUST ANSWER
•Where exactly did Boniface Twagirimana disappear, and what independent evidence supports the explanations given regarding his disappearance?
•What investigations have been conducted, and what records and evidence can be made public to establish the truth?
•What concrete steps have been taken to ensure that his family receives credible answers?
•Who will be held accountable if evidence establishes negligence or other unlawful conduct?
The Rwandan government must understand that legitimate governance is not built on power alone. It also depends on accountability, respect for the rule of law, and recognition of citizens’ right to demand answers from those entrusted with public responsibility.
If the government maintains that its actions complied with the law, it should support an independent and credible investigation capable of establishing the facts and uncovering the truth about what happened to Boniface Twagirimana. The truth should not be feared, and justice should not be reserved for some while denied to others.
Eight years later, his family still has the right to know what happened to him. The Rwandan people also have the right to know whether their institutions are fulfilling their duty to protect every person’s life and fundamental rights, regardless of their political beliefs or affiliations.
The Rwandan government must provide concrete answers. Silence, a lack of transparency, and the failure to present sufficient evidence cannot substitute for truth and justice.
THE TRUTH ABOUT BONIFACE TWAGIRIMANA MUST COME TO LIGHT.
HIS FAMILY HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW.
JUSTICE MUST BE UPHELD .

In @NyagatareDistr in Rwanda, @RwandaMoD rape women’s and sexually abuse them, as well as sexually abuse married men. They also abduct women or men at night.
The heartbreaking is that those responsible are not held accountable for their actions. The people deserve justice and accountability .

#RPF continues to demolish people’s homes.
In @gisozisector , a family of seven has spent an entire week living in the ruins after their home was demolished by the authorities, leaving them with nowhere else to go.
Imagine @rpfinkotanyi demolishing the home of a mother of six children who says she was abandoned by her husband, leaving her and her children living in these ruins. Among the children is a one-year-and-eight-month-old child. This is another example of how RPF continues to mistreat and violate the rights of ordinary citizens.
The family is urgently appealing for help, especially as rain continues to fall and they have nowhere else to seek shelter.
Neighbors say the authorities are aware of the situation, particularly because the village leader reportedly lives less than 10 meters from where this family is sleeping.

The issue we face is simply a matter of time; the era of Kagame’s regime is drawing to a close, and soon Rwanda and its people will once again be able to breathe freely, without living in fear of the Kagame who has made our lives miserable.
