Great work by @weiweidounaifen, @JaminGreenbaum@chadagreene @Christine_F_Dow @UTGeophysics., KOPRI, and Edinburgh, which I have the privilege to be part of, looking at the coupling between Getz Ice Shelf and subglacial water systems.
2/3 Attached is the basal melt rate of the Getz from CryoSat 2. The area-averaged melt under Getz is 4.15 meters per year, which is equivalent of 141.17 gigatons of freshwater per year into the Southern Ocean.
All of my figures are generated by Antarctic Mapping Tool, which is freely available at https://t.co/grUeNgUAIh by @chadagreene and David Gwyther from @IMASUTAS A handy toolbox to make your own fancy and reproducible ice figures!
Our discussion paper is available for y'all! @EGU_TC Check it out if you want to see how we use airborne gravity data, satellite observation, and hydrological model to study Getz Ice Shelf, Antarctica's largest meltwater source to Southern Ocean (link: https://t.co/qqQv43j0KG)
1/3 Getz has been know to produce more freshwater than any other source in Antarctica. Motivated by this, we inferred the ice shelf bathymetry from airborne gravity survey, and we found the troughs are continuous from the inner continental shelf to the beneath the ice shelf.
SDT is the continuation of the West Getz Trough in which unmodified Circumpolar Deep Water has been

Where is the Getz Ice Shelf? It lives in the same neighborhood with the star @ThwaitesGlacier in West Antarctica (in green). It was named by United States Antarctic Service (1939โ41) for George F. Getz of Chicago, Illinois, who helped furnish the seaplane for the expedition.
