@Plinz The spirit is the ability to have cohesion & intent over the dimension of time. Memory & identity are inherently linked to the meaning of life.
@St_Rev@sonyasupposedly There’s a state that’s hard to explain when you are a “free agent” & judge other “free agents” based on what they do with that capacity & power. Do they take responsibility for potential to affect other lives? If you are standing on a hill, you see others standing on hills.
@skdh Does “tying up loose ends” (inaccurate I think) lead to a smoothing of the frontier or a new jagged edge with new “gaps” to fill? I think it’s the latter- I think progress IS new “jags” at the edge.
@TheHoganHero@Debakelna@auraleyode@richcalhoun@RizomaSchool I disagree- just implying the presence of cadmium (which is like 3-5% worldwide) instantly turns 90% of normies against it. We should just stop with cdte cells at this point. Commercial solar farms are nearly impossible to get approval for in the US locally now.
@NoahJSnyder@tonylfeng Because it was largely RL’d BY Mythos/Fable to perform as a sub-agent. That doesn’t mean it’s an overall huge capability regression. It’s more of a “cultural” affect then a fundamental capability loss. In fact much of its communication style is overly dense to max info per token
@NoahJSnyder@tonylfeng I do disagree- but sorry for the tone, it is probably a result of short message limitations. “Regression” is not as systematic as people think, it’s more a function of the “interface layer” not being optimized for human interaction. It’s not reinforced to talk how you want.
@tonylfeng@davikrehalt There needs to be more weight to advancing mathematics (& human understanding of maths) over individual career success as well. Note that an even playing field of participants is what has advanced software mightily via open source, acting as a marketplace of “prove it by doing”
@NoahJSnyder@tonylfeng That “deterioration” is sort of overblown and primarily due to the models that were previously the “top tier” models, meant for human interaction, have now been optimized / RL’d by now higher tier models for use as sub-agents. This is specifically the Fable / Opus situation
@Jacob_Tsimerman Here’s what I don’t understand- humans have a drive to explore and technology has continuously allowed us to push the frontier and range of what we can explore. Were explorers using ships with sails inherently losing part of their humanity because they didn’t swim?
@42_gravity Here’s what I don’t understand- humans have a drive to explore and technology has continuously allowed us to push the frontier and range of what we can explore. Were explorers using ships with sails inherently losing part of their humanity because they didn’t swim?
@Plinz Is a complete and mathematically correct ethical system even possible within the confines of human language? one capable of “computing” the right answer for every future ethical scenario?
@mattyglesias My US dollar has become extraordinarily good at buying global capital and automated production, but much worse at buying local human labor. Which makes me ask: what is an economy actually for? Maximizing material abundance? Is it also to sustain communities?
@evantshen@mattyglesias LASIK is also highly tied to capital cost of equipment and skill required to operate. Both have come down significantly. Inflation of the dollar would be an order of magnitude higher without cost savings of technology & material goods.
“All progress depends on Unreasonable minds”- so neurodiversity is an evolutionary search to produce the most unreasonable mind that’s still accepted by other humans & can bring consolidation of possibility space search back into the cultural mind or tech tree?
