@ginocchio_k @psyc220 #CD7 That’s such a great point, not only do many people think children can’t struggle with mental illness but there’s also many who believe some disorders are exclusive to children and will be “grown out of” by adulthood, with rampant misconceptions this will be important work!
@sydn31 @psyc220 #CD7 thats a really noble cause however it might also be important to consider that federal groups like the FBI have a long history of using these stereotypes to their advantage, that would be very important to keep in mind while working in that environment
@psyc220 #CD7 I’m really interested in research psychology and this is a field that historically underserved marginalized groups, even still there is minimal to no data on a lot of communities and that’s something I hope to focus on changing in my own research
@ElliePsyc220 @psyc220 #CD6 yes! Nobody ever talks about how expensive it is to be disabled in every step from treatment to accommodation to diagnosis and how hard it is to find accommodating job opportunities as a disabled person
#CD6 @psyc220 according to ADL anti-semitism is on the rise and this leads to active violence towards jewish people and culture not faced by religious or ethnic majorities, it’s place as an ethno- religion makes this oppression intersectional and multifaceted
@teagdavis @psyc220 #cd6 this is such a great point especially considering so many lgbtq+ individual face homelessness and familial neglect due to their identities and leaves so many people without resources to better their financial situation
@jackie_stanaway @psyc220 #cd5a this is such a great point, I’m a person with a physical disability and every time I have had complications no one knows how to help bodies that are not typical, the majority of physical disabilities are exacerbated by exercise so this is a huge issue
@ecdeboe @psyc220 #cd5a the nature of the “like and share” is also so exploitative and further objectifies the experiences of disabled people, treating this person like a commodity without this person ever reaping any benefit
@NiahDGray @psyc220 #cd5b these images also posit the idea that just because a disabled person does something impressive by able bodied standards they have completely overcome their disability in all aspects of their life, which is always inaccurate or else they wouldn’t be considered disabled
@4ngel4tr4n @psyc220 #cd5b in this statement she also recognizes addiction as a disability, although controversial this posits that addiction is a difficulty deserving of accommodation like any other disability and is something I agree with her on
#CD5b @psyc220 disabled experience used as “inspiration” exists in both the social and medical model “wow they overcame bullying for a disability” is just as harmful as “wow they did that in spite of a disability” both incorrectly think disabled people must earn basic decency
#CD5a @psyc220 accessibility to accommodation is only possible at universities via expensive diagnosis that is often difficult to get, once accommodations are granted it takes just as much effort to utilize them as it does to struggle without accommodations
@NiahDGray @psyc220 #CD4 This is such a good point about the intersection between class and gender that I don’t see very many people making especially in reference to transitional feminist theory
@psyc220 #CD4 no one is just a woman, but people are black straight upper class women, these identities do not exist in a bubble and this is why feminism must be intersectional, noone is liberated from just gender inequality until they are liberated from all forms of oppression
@zakeroja @psyc220 @psyc220 #CD4 I totally agree that feminism fights for the rights of so many groups but I would debate that toxic masculinity that effects men is a product of misogyny, ergo it’s smthn feminists must fight against
@vansicjl @psyc220 Racism, as well as privilege like you mention, is not always direct and is so easy for white people to ignore especially when it’s become so normalized #CD3a
@mollyclark925 Only having to “imagine” that people are racist is in itself privileged and something only white people get to do, glad you make the point that this a reality and that it comes from fear not rationality #CD3a
@pagdag220 @psyc220 This is not my definition of inclusion when the idea is still to regulate and bar access to people based on how “safe” people from certain countries are, this conflation of national identity and safety is both intense nationalism and racist @psyc220 @pagdag220 #CD3b
@rileymurphyyy12 @psyc220 It’s truly tragic the way immigrants are seen as cheap labor and not human beings, it’s hard to believe in the authenticity of the “American dream” when so much of success is built upon this sort of inequality and abuse @psyc220 @rileymurphyyy12#CD3b
@4ngel4tr4n @psyc220 #CD3b @psyc220 @4ngel4tr4n It’s impossible to have the conversation of money and labor without having the conversation of race and immigration, this is such a good example of how the two are so intertwined even in the modern day
