🎉 Exciting Announcement! 🎉
“Histone Modifications and Chromatin Structure Symposium”
🗓️ Dates: October 17-18, 2024
📍 Location: National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland
The NCI Center of Excellence in Chromosome Biology is delighted to invite you to our upcoming symposium. This symposium honors the legacies of Dr. C. David Allis and Dr. Gary Felsenfeld, pioneers in the study of chromatin and gene expression. Presentations from 25 renowned scientists. 📢ACCESS DENIED!!
Ever wonder how heterochromatin causes transcriptional gene silencing and is epigenetically inherited?
Excited to share our new story showing that histone deacetylation, a conserved feature of heterochromatin domains from yeast to mammals, limits access to SWI/SNF chromatin remodelers to prevent unraveling of nucleosomes, which enforces gene silencing and maintains high H3K9me3 density required for epigenetic inheritance

We're deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Maxine Singer, esteemed scientist emeritus at NCI’s Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her groundbreaking work and dedication to science have left an enduring legacy. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues🌹
Preprint🚨on a new mechanism of genetic cheating in meiosis! 🧬We found that a mouse selfish DNA, R2d2, combines the elements of both male and female meiotic drivers! (gamete sabotaging in female meiosis)

My department is hiring! Tenure track faculty position in genetics. Researchers using any eukaryotic model, including fungi and plants are encouraged to apply! We are a broad biology department with strengths across all kingdoms. Join us! Apply by March 1 https://t.co/OElgizxdPf
📢Job Opening COMPUTATIONAL STAFF SCIENTIST🌟
The Laboratory of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (LBMB) at NIH is seeking a Computational Staff Scientist to analyze transcriptional and post-transcriptional processes in eukaryotes. Full job ad here 👉https://t.co/CqeGSdoJLH
📢An elegant dance between replication and histone retention for epigenetic inheritance!🥳Our new work shows that heterochromatin domains are specialized replication zones that preserve parental modified histones to ensure self-templated chromatin assembly https://t.co/JWXeySNvBC
Now recruiting: enthusiastic postdocs to use advanced imaging methods to dissect biological processes. My group at Harvard has 2 Wellcome-funded positions examining the underlying mechanisms and resultant forces driving bacterial growth, division, and antimicrobial resistance.
Huge thanks to @chienlab @UMassBMB and @UMassMCB for hosting me at the MCB seminar series yesterday! @UMassAmherst has a great community and wonderful trainees, I really enjoyed all of my discussions!
