Keylakunu island of Maldives, is the only island which shows true features of a forest. Back in 2001, international experts called on to make this island as ‘Mangrove wild reserve’. Can we please make this island as a nature reserve?? #SaveKeylakunu#Maldives@EPAMaldives
Joint Statement by Civil Society Organisations calling on the government to halt any impending development activities at Hdh. Keylakunu & declare it a nature reserve to protect the rare wild mangrove forest and limit human interaction.

Three barges have run aground on the reef in #Kulhudhuffushi, causing havoc and irreparable damage. This marks the fourth such incident this year alone. Kulhudhuffushi is truly a site of #ecocide.
Migrant workers continue to pay with their lives for the failures of the State and policy makers who exploit and ignore the safety, security and well-being of one of the most marginalised groups in Maldives.

Over 40% of 🇲🇻 population are young people. They are the driving force for development & progress.
We must place them at the centre of education design & enhance their participation in matters that impact their future. We will be back for dialogues led by youth of Kulhudhuffushi
As part of the ongoing visit to Kulhudhuffushi City, the team of Canadian High Commission visited Kulhudhuffushi mangroves.
Youth led environmental movement group, @BeLeafMv guided the team through the remaining area of the mangroves.

As long as Parliamentarians get insurance and access to private healthcare services (paid for by taxpayers!), there is going to be no political will nor incentive to ensure that the public healthcare system will provide essential, lifesaving, quality and timely services for all.

It's equally performative to give flowers & to prohibit giving flowers.
Why not demand Ministries celebrate the day by listening to women, recognizing their work, understanding the issues & support needed, & creatining a safe work environment?
What do we really need?

Still not as disappointing as you as chair of ECCC and ECCC not doing anything about GoM building a 500 Ton/d WtE plant on Thilafushi and 40 Ton/d in Addu that will be more carbon intensive than Coal for power generation and will dry up the Green Fund.
3. The consequences of climate change and climate inaction impact young people the most! We call on the State to ensure the meaningful participation of young people, and ensure their voices are reflected in decision making forums such as #COP26!

Kulhudhuffushi has some beautiful mangroves, and @BeLeafMv were great hosts when we conducted surveys with them to understand recent changes in mangrove health https://t.co/GJ9zasbLho @MangroveProject@IUCN_Mangrove@caron_rohsler

Yellow mangrove/Karamana (Ceriops tagal) in Shaviyani Farukolhu tidal mangrove swamp(Koaru). Ceriops tagal has a remarkably high degree of salinity tolerance. Happy #BiodiversityDay!
