Doctors vs. Climate Change and Air Pollution. Evidence based. Split don't emit. We can do this. Decarbonize Now!

⁦@Dr_Keefer⁩ director of doctors for nuclear energy speaks at the last stand for nuclear to save the remaining German reactors whose continued operation displace coal and as a result save the lives of 1800 people per year from averted air pollution. ⁦@fota4climate⁩

@dr_keefer and @DrMWalkerMD explain why Nuclear Energy is the right treatment plan for climate change.

Is Nuclear Energy Just Too Risky? A 🧵.

As doctors we explain the risks & benefits of treatment plans on a daily basis. The risk/benefit profile of nuclear energy is clear. Nuclear is extremely safe, our lowest CO2 energy source & is essential to reaching our climate goals. 1/

You have to be a special kind of physician to do that.

Doctors for Nuclear Energy director @Dr_Keefer and @DrMWalkerMD faced off against 3 antinuclear physicians in today’s Toronto Star Saturday Debate. Enjoy.

[chris keefer @Dr_Keefer]

Was honoured to be asked alongside @DrMWalkerMD & Doug Boreham to write the “No” side to The Saturday Debate: Is nuclear energy just too risky? It was a battle of the doctors. Three pro-nuclear medical doctors faced off against three antinuclear doctors. https://t.co/CMdGhb09c3

Good to hear South Africa being mentioned.

A vignette from a documentary on nuclear energy in India is a perfect example of the sloppy journalism & science mis-communication that plagues the antinuclear movement. The exploitation of disabled children to further a radiophobia narrative is as cringey as poverty porn.

Got a really cool Decouple video coming out soon shot by @jessefreeston. @dr_keefer on the ground at the climate marches in Glasgow at #COP26 representing doctors for nuclear. Very interesting reception.

With no zero-emission gen, Hungary initially had rel. very high emissions, until large 1980s nuclear roll-out halved emissions, further progress in last 15 years, during which prices have increased.

For 2019, non-emit gen.= 56%, emissions = 320 kg/MWh, HH prices = USD$248/MWh

The nuclear fuel cycle in Canada has a pretty small footprint. For @Bruce_Power, whose fuel partner is Cameco, it starts in Cigar Lake, makes a trip to Blind River, and ends in Port Hope. Cigar Lake has the highest grade uranium deposits in the world at a 15.92% average grade. /1

lemme say it this way: if you think convincing enviros that nuclear is good, rather than the rest of the public, is a priority...

Because many countries around Germany have been closing and will be trying to close their nuclear, German power prices and exports are supported, which will keep the demand for Germany's coal plants high.

They have been kept open in anticipation of this scenario.
