Many women facing GBV and other forms of violence struggle to access timely and appropriate justice. Informal justice actors are often the first point of contact, yet challenges in referrals, follow-up, confidentiality and handling complex cases limit effective support.
To address these gaps, UWONET mentored cultural and religious leaders in Lamwo and Nwoya, strengthening their capacity to provide gender-responsive support, use the GBV Referral Pathway and connect survivors to appropriate services. @ADCinUganda

Water User Committees are strengthening community ownership of water sources through better accountability, record keeping and maintenance.
Since UWONET’s trainings, committees have shifted from individually holding user fees to using transparent systems, including treasurer-managed funds and SACCO accounts, to support repairs and maintenance.

A little information can make a big difference.
In Kalerwe, the EMPOWER team brought family planning conversations closer to residents and market-goers creating space to learn, ask questions and understand the choices available.
Before choosing a method, speak to a qualified health worker or family planning counsellor for guidance that considers your needs and future plans.

New Staff Alert: Meet Susanna Janson Landin, our new Program Officer for Health and SRHR 🇸🇪🇺🇬
Before joining the Embassy of Sweden in Uganda, she worked on human rights and democracy issues at the Unit for Latin America and previously supported Sweden's embassies across Africa on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR).
Although Uganda was new to her, she had heard many positive stories about the 'Pearl of Africa' and its friendly people. Arriving in Kampala, she was initially struck by the city's energy and busy traffic, but after just two weeks she already feels at home. She loves how green and lush the city is and has been inspired by the warmth and hospitality she has experienced.
She is especially excited to work with partners advancing health and SRHR in Uganda and looks forward to contributing to improved outcomes for women, girls and young people.
Welcome to the team! 🇸🇪🤝🇺🇬

Menstrual health interventions are contributing to improved school participation, attendance and wellbeing among girls.
Through the Period Positive Schools model, @IriseEastAfrica provides reusable menstrual products, menstrual health education and community engagement while working with education authorities to strengthen WASH facilities and promote inclusion for girls with disabilities.
The organisation also tracks girls’ academic journeys, supporting their transition from primary to secondary school and encouraging families and communities to play an active role in keeping girls in education.
