There is a partial lunar eclipse tonight. Conditions in the KC area look pretty good with clear to mostly clear skies expected. Temperatures will be in the 20s to near freezing so dress warm if you venture out to witness this celestial event.
If you are west (or behind) the line of storms, you are in the clear. Storms should be done for the day.
This includes eastern KS, the I-29 corridor, and the KC Metro.
It will be chilly and windy behind the storms with west/northwest winds gusting up to 40 mph.
Here is the 19Z hand drawn surface analysis. These analyses are an important part of our forecast process every day, but particularly on more active days such as today.
We'll never forget you, Oppy!
@NASA's Opportunity rover explored Mars from 2004 to 2018. "Oppy" reached the rim of Victoria Crater, seen here, in 2006. From overhead, the @HiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured this image.
Jupiter's Trojan asteroids orbit the Sun in two swarms, one just ahead of Jupiter and the other just behind. Each asteroid is named after a character in Greek mythology's depiction of the Trojan war; Greeks in one swarm and Trojans in the other.
We've confirmed 4,531 planets beyond our solar system -- so far. Each is a window to a new world. Two suns? Sure. Lava oceans? You bet.
This week we'll be talking about exploration and share a new video with imagined scenes of future exploration. Join us as we #ExploreAsOne
