@PetGorilla In 1830, there was zero physical evidence of metal plates containing ancient records... plenty of eyewitness testimony... Only 100 years later came wealth of evidence: metal plates in the ancient world proved the practice for exact time and place as the BOM origin. Good guess?
@DiscipleFidei@BIGKLDS When Paul wrote to the Galatians and later visited... surely he was asked questions to clarify his written words. The living prophet had greater authority than the words he wrote. We don't do sola scritura... we have living prophets and dont cling to interpretations as idols
@PetGorilla Did Jesus teach you to be this dishonest? the quote's context was a conditional statement in regards to what Joseph said he witnessed and you remove from context to fit a narrative.
@CarlaDunn338397@_consistent_man@DiscipleFidei Don't listen to people who don't know and assume the worst. Hold to your faith in God, pray and fast more and eventually you'll see the same beauty you saw in the beginning. It's true!
@Hail_Winter@domanipllc Pretty easy to assume the worst in a person from 200 years away based on the history written by his haters, in a book youve clearly never read (drenched in Jesus Christ), in a temple you've never been in and of a people you have malice for. Where did Jesus teach to do this?
@OchoZaco Or... you can use your noggin and if something is taught consistently over time and across the full body of leadership, you know it's doctrine. That's what members were taught... not feelings
@Apologetics941 Do you know how many were late in pregnancy with the child of their husband when he was sealed to them? Did you know he believed the gifts promised to him and his children (biologically or "adopted" through sealing) would be passed to child through such sealing?
@OchoZaco The message is the church that Jesus established and left in the hands of apostles with markers manifest in Acts: new revelation, 12 apostles, authority, gift of HG by the laying on of hands, evangelize with missionaries, heal, bless et. The invitation to come to Jesus. Wrong?
@ryanswalters73@KevinMa45339209 You're taking convenient liberties... the government that protected slavery and abuse of the Mormons was very much overthrown / replaced... in less than 25 years
@Thatbrian You're using a very old list... the past 15 years has brought a flood of evidence you ignore. That list gets smaller every year and you conveniently force defining horses as what we'd call horses when what the BOM references were never ridden, used for transportation or wars.
@DiscipleFidei With respect, you are mistaken. Every member goes through the Bible every 4 years. Additionally missionaries who give 2 years of their life to the cause go through the Bible at least twice. The church we belong to is the one described perfectly in the Book of Acts
@CapturingChrist So what if your sources of learning of tarnished character were tainted and much of them flat out lies by those who wanted to destroy the man? Would you hold any responsibility for believing the false slander and contributing tonhis destruction?
@LostMyHats@Other_Sheep_ He may have said it but how is this a lie? This has never been cannonized LDS doctrine. Yes, there are a few quotes by leaders but we don't see leaders as infallible and we don't see doctrine in a couple quotes...doctrine is consistently taught from all leaders and over time.
@Faustzme Please tell me why this has to be treated as weird? Why is the belief so disrespected when a marriage ceremony is considered so sacred to us that it warrants being performed before God in what we consider His temple? Many have a civil ceremony beside. Please educate me
@IowaResideav@Apologetics941 Sorry for your experience. I grew up in the same church. What did you feel was dishonest about it? History is guesswork... artist depictions and varying accounts leave people with different ideas of what happened. The resulting BOM isnt any less miraculous.
