@BristOliver Not at all. Appreciate your maths stuff, esp. re. COVID, but yr summary of that poll (“scrapping”, “easier”) was inaccurate in a way you wouldn’t like it if it was about you. Your ex-cathedra pronouncements about energy balance aren’t as up-to-date as you’d want, I believe.
@BristOliver I disagree. “Phasing out” might mean not replacing old nuclear at end of service life (and, thus, not building new nuclear). And there are reasonable scientific analyses that suggest solar, wind, tidal, some biomass, and batteries might be the cheaper/faster route to net-zero.
@BristOliver What makes you believe they don’t know this? Surely the point is one of degree. By all means criticise the detail of the stats notes (inc. 2.2) here https://t.co/xeGJy2RqWY but talking about their “tiny minds” looks unfair to me.
“They are deliberately killing children by purposely starving them.”
LIve Aid campaigner and musician Bob Geldof condemns the Israeli government’s role in the Gaza crisis as he speaks to Miriam O’Callaghan amid mounting deaths from hunger.

@holland_tom Nice to see you, albeit briefly, at the cricket today. Needless to say, am actually intensely pleased with the well-deserved success of all your projects. And to ghost Brian Lara…sublime!
Letter ‘War can never be waged for revenge or expansion’ From Rabbi Robyn Ashworth-Steen and others
Financial Times: Apr 25 2025
As Jewish religious leaders in Britain, we too are horrified by the Israeli government’s relaunch of attacks against Gaza (“As British Jews we can no longer stay silent on the war in Gaza”, Letters, April 16). We feel it is our duty to remind Israel’s leaders of the core Jewish teaching that war can never be waged for revenge or expansion. The Israeli government must uphold international law, and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. We stand with all those in Israel-Palestine seeking to bring about a just and lasting peace. We share in their call for an end to the bombing; an end to the siege; and the safe release of the hostages.

Periodic reminder that the Third Way “centre left” leaders all got filthy rich whilst consolidating a political economy in which your wages stagnated and your public services and infrastructure were privatised or fell apart. Quite a good deal for them; not so much for you.
Israel blocks all aid for starved women and children in Gaza funded by the US, Germany, the UK, the EU and Scandinavians.
NRC alone has 34 trucks waiting endlessly to enter Gaza.
The situation is utterly desperate.
We have fully exhausted our stock inside Gaza of critical items, such as tents for the homeless.
We may soon be unable to even continue water trucking for the displaced. We call for the immediate access of aid and restoration of basic services.
It is a grave violation of international law to starve innocent children for political purposes.
The European Commission has just made it clear that the rigid constraints they had placed on public finance were totally artificial. They have now lifted them to enable massive military production.
The EC could have done the same thing to achieve rapid decarbonization and ensure good housing, healthcare, and public transit for all. They could have abolished deprivation, unemployment and economic insecurity. But they did not.
This exposes an extraordinary betrayal. It reveals that the European working classes have been lied to, over and over.
The European Commission has suppressed production of public services, not because it has been fiscally necessary to do so, but because it ensures the conditions for capital accumulation.
Plot twist as it turns out Keir Hardie loved workers so much he wanted them to work harder and longer for less, ideally making bombs, and make sure they have no help if the boss sacks them
