@RauMiss Our kindergarten classroom focuses on number sense- less or more, measurement, and sorting attribute blocks. I think patterning is also a really big thing with our kids during fine-motor times. #OSUElemMath
@RauMiss@DelaneyMathews1 As far as counting, I don't think we guide ours explicitly when counting manipulatives. My CT tells me to just watch them first because there are some amazing things going on when they count on their own. But Kindergarteners in first couple months are all about memorizing numbers
@Miss_Heck I was good at simple memorization so I used to just shove those math rules into my head. But guess what? I did not know when or how to apply those! Taking 1125 and 1126 made math all make sense for me #AllAboutFoundation
@professorteds@missedwards321@MissZeaman@Miss_Heck I was about to say that!!! X equals opposite of B, Plus or minus square root, b squared minus 4ac, All over 2a! Haha🤣 Quadratic formula..... That was the last part of math I was good at, then it was downhill......
@TheMissHirsch in our kindergarten classroom, we practice on representing a number in 6 different ways. ex) 2, two, pictures of two apples, 2 tally marks, 2 dots on five frame, and 2 dots on a dice. drawing dots on a dice is a challenge for sure
@ChelseyAnglin@AnnRoFlo our classroom does exact same thing but with just dots for counting. the lesson is about that although dots move around the number stays the same.
@missaljacksy @iamfeeny Yes! Math (or any other subejcts) does not need to always happen inside the classroom. Math with pumpkin is a perfect lesson for fall🍂🎃
@MissMantel@YeseniaCortes01@iamfeeny Going off of your tweet, my kids have 6 centers during math. one is a formative assessment from previous lesson, another two are exploring manipulatives from current lesson, and the rest are math play/games. #GoodBalanceBtwnCurriculumAndPlay
@missaljacksy @MissMantel@miss_furno I’ve never done that exact same quiz before but it definitely sounds like a pressure! I agree that it those assessments need to be less of a competition but in other ways that encourage students
@Miss_Heck@iamfeeny I like your thoughts Holly! Extra Recess🤡 I would definitely pick a nice weather to do it so I don’t lose my patience under heat🔥 #AutumnisFinallyHere
@professorteds@DelaneyMathews1 @MissTrigg_Cbus When I was in elementary school in Korea, “calculator” was something that kids don’t touch. Adults used to think that calculator makes kids stupid. #IThinkTheyStillDo 🤭
@missnungester@miss_furno Yes! When I was in 1st grade, I was always timed to do a simple +, -, *, and /, and the teacher always kept in track of who is the fatest...🤷🏻♀️ #DontKnowWhy
