did U know your MRI scans are often not acquired with the parameters/protocol you set them up to be? and that can lead to many issues, subtle & serious? Good news is it's easy to check & prevent them in the first place with #mrQA and continuous monitoring. links below👇 #OHBM2023
speaking in layman terms, something we often don’t think about is, the very act of attempting to MR image an object causes artefacts 😄 #ISMRM23
Dr. Morgan of U Auckland is teaching B0 related artefacts well. A less physicsy overview of neuroimaging artefacts can be obtained from our OHBM 2019 #niQC educational course : https://t.co/RdcOC7P4lY
it maddens me to realize academia is full of discrimination in key dimensions, often structurally manifested in eligibility criteria:
- domestic vs. international:
1. eligibility for scholarships, awards and grants for students and faculty
2. tuition fees for trainees;
- tenure track (TT) vs. non-TT: for grants and awards from non-profit foundations, as well as "top" awards from NIH, NSF CAREER etc;
- postdoc vs. faculty (for eligibility to apply for grants, or ability to start collaborations);
- fresh graduates vs. "stale": within 2 years of PhD defence, vs. those taking a longer, diverse path to become ready to apply;
- MD vs. PhD: higher $$ for same fellowship, and lot more accommodation for eligibility time window.

Any US citizens or Permanent Residents looking for postdocs in neuroimaging, biomarkers, #machinelearning and/or #datascience?
We are keen to recruit for @NLM_NIH funded positions, that offer great flexibility and support to help you become an independent researcher. PhD students planning to graduate late this year or early next year are also welcome to apply. Reach out to me via DM here, or email. Thanks.

#VisualQC update: after resisting it for many years, I'm now offering a way to batch generate screenshots of various complex #neuroimaging visualizations VisualQC generates, for all its modules (Freesurfer, defacing, imaging artifacts, alignment accuracy, DWI, EPI).
Just use the --screenshots_only flag, after customizing the layout to your needs.
Please note we strongly discourage any ideas of using these static screenshots for QC purposes as:
- screenshots can and do become out of sync with data on disk
- screenshots are static and do not allow zooming-in or proper review of different types of data
- VisualQC rendering is so blazing fast in most cases, that you can always fire it up if you need to show any subject or data to colleagues, and have the full power and capability of VisualQC while doing so.

🔥🧠What a debate!
As for now, I count 19(!) papers/commentaries about BWAS replicability.

🧠Neuroimaging peeps🧠 our field is blessed with beautiful visualizations. Our preprint provides 3 tools to help move toward code-based & replicable visualization:
📗practical guide (why should I?)
📦package selector (which one?)
🏗️code template generator (how do I start?)

Today I declined to review for two [springer] Nature journals citing their recent outrageous #peerreview scam
I urge other academics to stop reviewing and/or editing for these exploitative for-profit businesses. We've ethical and fiscally responsible options now! 🙏 #phdchat
Amplitudes of RSNs turn out to reflect more the synchrony of within-network activity than the raw amplitude of BOLD activity, with these two aspects having distinct physiological correlates and relationships to measured functional connectivity.
Very glad to repot our work on MRI / neuroimaging protocol compliance has been accepted for an Oral Talk at ISMRM! Preprint to be shared soon. Stay tuned! #niqc#mrQA tool already available at https://t.co/U8Iq3cGNNZ
