Beta blockers may delay symptom onset and slow #HuntingtonsDisease progression. The new study results “provide hope that there may be novel targets, such as the autonomic nervous system, for modifying the disease course,” says Jordan Schultz, PharmD https://t.co/Op0ov8f7VK
β-blocker therapy in Huntington disease (HD) was associated with a later age at onset and a slower rate of worsening of clinical symptoms.

We investigated beta-blockers based on previous findings showing that patients with HD have autonomic dysfunction. These findings provide early evidence that the autonomic nervous system may be a novel therapeutic target for slowing the progression of HD.

More data on α1-adrenergic receptor antagonist Terazosin from @MatthewWeberPhD@narayananlab & colleagues - rodents with VTA dopamine depletion had higher interval timing variability, improved by daily terazosin; Plus more epidemiological #Parkinsons data

While a diagnosis of Marfan Syndrome has not yet been confirmed, this is a tragic reminder of how important an early diagnosis can be. For my 2 yo son, @UIchildrens turned a routine eye appointment into a life-saving early diagnosis of MFS, for which I am forever grateful.

Schultz et al. report that autonomic dysfunction in patients with presymptomatic #HuntingtonsDisease is associated with decreased functional connectivity within the Central Autonomic Network. @Schultz_lab https://t.co/On8LAjAzbv
Our newest paper in @MDJ_Journal shows that children with long CAG repeats (>50) who were far from their predicted motor onset of HD had striatal hypertrophy that preceded degeneration. @ChANGE_HDstudy @JoHD_Iowa@UIowaPsychiatry@UIowaNeuro
