I came back to the United States, hearing about a very sad news: Craig Venter passed away today. He is a pioneer, successfully sequenced the first Human genome, and tried to create Synthetic Cells. We lost a giant in Science. RIP.

NEWS: NIH-funded scientists at @StJudeResearch have identified a new cell death pathway which is triggered by inflammation + metabolic stress. The study suggests potential cancer treatment applications by activating this pathway to regress tumors.

I’m honored to share that I have joined the UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at @UCSDHealth as a new faculty member, beginning in early September. I am grateful to the School for their trust and for giving me the opportunity to carry forward meaningful research and contribute to the department’s mission of education and innovation.

This new role builds on six years of close collaboration with my mentor and supervisor, Prof. Carlo Ballatore. Through his mentorship and our joint work, I gained not only invaluable knowledge and expertise in medicinal chemistry but also the opportunity to contribute as a partner in shaping the important research programs we initiated together.
His passing earlier this year was a profound loss for all of us, but his vision continues to guide me as I build upon this foundation and carry forward the meaningful research we set in motion.

I’m excited to lead our research efforts, collaborate with the incredible UCSD community, and expand on the foundation we built, surrounded by my talented PhD students and lab members. I am deeply thankful to everyone who has supported me on this journey—your encouragement has made all the difference. I’m ready for this new chapter and committed to making a lasting impact in pharmaceutical sciences, advancing discoveries that can improve lives and strengthen the field for years to come.
