@TAO_dot_com article “The Impact of Conviction”
Access to intelligence should not depend on a handful of companies or governments.
This is why open, decentralized, permissionless AI matters.
This is why Bittensor matters.
I’ve wanted to tell this story for years. Never had the courage. Here it is.
I turned a presale allocation into $80 million on $OHM. Today I have $500k left.
In 2021, I got a presale allocation in OlympusDAO, then aped heavily myself on top of it. The allocation got me in the door. My own conviction made me go all in. Staked everything. Watched it compound daily. By the peak I was sitting on $80 million.
Then I started spending like the money printed itself.
Private jets to Dubai because commercial felt beneath me. $40k weekends in Monaco. A garage full of cars I drove twice. Watches I never wore. I tipped $5k at dinners just to feel something. Every purchase was a flex for an audience that didn’t care.
The casino was worse. High limit rooms in Vegas and Macau. I’d lose $2 million in a night and laugh it off because the portfolio would make it back by morning. Until it didn’t.
When $OHM unwound, I didn’t sell. I doubled down. Then I leveraged. 5x, then 10x, trying to trade my way back to the peak. Every liquidation felt like a personal insult, so I’d open a bigger position. I wasn’t trading anymore. I was gambling with a different interface.
$80 million became $20 million. $20 million became $4 million. I told myself $4 million was still life changing money. Then I levered that too.
$500k. That’s what’s left.
Here’s what I learned the expensive way:
Unrealized gains are not money. I never had $80 million. I had a number on a screen and the arrogance to believe it was permanent.
Getting in early is a gift. I treated it like a skill. The allocation didn’t make me a genius. It made me lucky. I confused the two for three years.
Lifestyle inflation is a leak you don’t notice until the ship is underwater. The jets and cars didn’t kill me. The identity did. I became someone who needed to spend to feel like a winner.
Leverage doesn’t get you back to even. It gets you to zero faster. Revenge trading is just grief with a chart open.
Nobody at the table in Monaco remembers my name.
I’ve carried this story alone for years. Too embarrassed to say it out loud. But $500k is more than most people will ever hold at once, and I’m done pretending the past didn’t happen. The next decade is about building slow and keeping what I make.
If you’re up big right now, screenshot this. You’ll need it.
Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we’ve made safe for general use.
Its capabilities exceed those of any model we’ve ever made generally available.
I’m aware i’m not becoming popular amongst $tao by calling certain stuff out, its a highly political environment where people rather believe fairy tails than facts
I remember when i was critical regarding Ridges and the SOTA claims, where are they now?
Criticism is important for projects to grow, a bunch of ‘yes men’ wont achieve anything especially knowing that majority is acting in their own self interest
The moment you should get worried is when nobody starts to care, but be aware there is only so much backlash one can take
Hyperliquid, a decentralized crypto platform, is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The exchange has emerged this year as a go-to spot for Wall Street’s weekend warriors. https://t.co/3VCVCnxToh
1/ $HYPE is one of the clearest examples of DeFi competing with centralized exchanges on product and economics, not just ideology
Can an onchain exchange become one of the major venues for global trading?
A thread on @HyperliquidX 🧵
We welcome today’s CFTC actions: approval of the first U.S.-listed perpetual derivatives contract, an accompanying Commission policy statement on the listing of perpetual derivatives, related interpretive guidance and no-action relief from the Market Participants Division, and a Staff Advisory on 24/7 Trading, Clearing, and Settlement, as a long-overdue acknowledgment that perpetual derivatives are a legitimate and essential tool for price discovery and risk management.
For too long, regulatory ambiguity drove these markets offshore, depriving American traders and institutions of access to regulated venues and undermining U.S. competitiveness in the global derivatives markets.
Today’s actions chart a new path forward. We look forward to engaging closely with the Commission to ensure that the framework it develops is workable not only for centralized intermediaries, but for the onchain protocols where the most significant perpetuals activity actually occurs.
From Const this morning. Great news IMO. bittensor:native
"Hello @everyone in the Bittensor family.
Public service announcement: Starting next week we will be introducing an interim measure to block emissions on Bittensor subnets which are engaging in active foul play and or with no clear path to adding value into the Bittensor ecosystem.
This will need to be done on a case-by-case basis, however the criteria for blocked emissions will revolve around the following:
1) Long-term burning of 100% miner emissions with no plan from the team to bring them online.
2) Active self-mining i.e. subnets that do not have code and instead use stake weight to pass emissions to their own keys.
3) Dead or fully abandoned subnets, or those that have not announced themselves i.e. "unclaimed" subnets.
4) Subnets engaged in TaoFlow exploitation, such as 104, which have very little to no chain activity from the network at large. A chain operation to block emission will be available on Tuesday to carry this out. Note this not a long term solution, as further protocol upgrades such as conviction, shorting, and the eventual full decentralized governance system of Bittensor will be coming into play this year -- these methods will allow much more organic and swarm based intelligence to organize Bittensor's emission vector.
In the near term, I believe that there is broad support and consensus for this activity as it will drive more value towards subnets on Bittensor (you know who you are) that are pushing forward a decentralized vision for artificial intelligence.
Thank you everyone Much love
- Const"
