The African Union has joined the call to replace the outdated 16th-century Mercator map which distorts Africa’s true size, with the Equal Earth projection, a map that shows the continent as it really is: vast, powerful, and central to our world. #CorrectTheMap
💬 “It might seem to be just a map, but in reality, it is not,” says AU Deputy Chairperson H.E. @DCP_Haddadi in an article with Reuters
Led by @africanofilter and @SpeakUpAfrica1 , this campaign urges governments, schools, and international organisations to adopt maps that reflect Africa’s true scale and restore balance to how our world is viewed.

#MarewaiMassacre: The Ethiopian Oromo regime's forces massacred more than 157 innocent people in Marewai city of Amhara region, and 30 bodies were buried in a mass grave. In addition, 25 more corpses were found piled up in one place, #AmharaGenocide
In a recent interview with a Finnish newspaper @afitz3105 accurately points out
"The disbandment of regional forces was supposed to be part of a broader constitutional reform process, but the Prime Minister singled out Amhara's Fano and special police from the mix and demanded they either disarm or join the federal armed forces"
533 days after the signing of the #Pretoria #COHA treaty that ended the conflict between the Ethiopian Gov forces and the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front, the TPLF forces have aggressed with a military invasion of Raya, in Northern Amhara region, an area which was liberated in Oct 2022 after annexation by the Tigray region decades ago. Raya is one of the major contested regions on the borders of the Tigray Region with Amhara region, and locals and Ethiopian nationals elsewhere have been anticipating the continuation of this conflict after the extremely ambitious and impractical terms agreed upon in Pretoria.
Pretoria was a Sham - we said it then and we will say it again.
The "peace treaty" excluded the other critical parties who were deeply impacted by the 2 year conflict (Amhara, Afar and Eritrea) and consisted of only members of the TPLF and the Federal government. This is despite the heavy burdens carried by the excluded members which included massive casualties, years of war and turmoil, destruction of schools, hospitals, public and private property, economic travesty on their populations, displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, and severe humanitarian crisis after crisis, all because of a war started by the TPLF and prolonged by the reckless, incompetence of Abiy Ahmeds Prosperity government. At the end it was Abiys government and the perpetrators that signed a "Deal" under the auspice of the @_AfricanUnion peace and security process which has failed the people of Africa once again.

Disarmament Demobilization and Reintegration is a long phrase to say "Quick Fix". The leaders who oversaw the Pretoria treaty and its deceptive extension (The modalities agreement in Nairobi), articulated terms of disarming all combatants and engaging in peaceful negotiations and reconciliation of all warring sides citing that the @AfricanUnion Monitoring Team would oversee the peaceful implementation of the terms in the agreement.
Lets summarize this to avoid redundancy - None of the terms were met! @AUC_PAPS@IGADPeace@IGADsecretariat - The people who suffered the impacts of the violence over 2 years, their families, and concerned citizens and nationals, no one on any side of the war was satisfied. The Government wasn't held accountable but was instead celebrated by the very people that failed us all. The perpetrators were given a platform for negotiating and the people whose lives and homes they destroyed weren't given a platform to even speak for themselves. But it doesn't stop there.
Not only were the attackers not disarmed and demobilized, but the GoE went on a campaign to disarm the very people that were on the receiving end of the violence. This led to civil protests, which resulted in mass arrests and even shooting, raiding and killing youth who stood up against the injustice, and it all culminated to the Gov declaring another state of emergency and waging military attack on its own citizens in the Amhara region which has been ongoing for approximately one year.

The Hidden #Genocide in #Ethiopia
• People from the #Amhara ethnic group are particularly targeted; killing of Amhara men, women and children is a daily occurrence in what constitutes a Genocidal Campaign of Hate

The relentless drone strikes targeting Amhara civilians, particularly vulnerable women and children, in the Amhara region demand urgent global attention. We cannot ignore this horrific violence; we must unite to end the bloodshed and demand accountability. #AmharaGenocide@hrw
