NEW: I have no way of confirming the details of this Reddit story (and DC911/@OUC_DC refuses to deal with me). But I can tell you the long wait to get DC911 to answer, the inability of a call-taker to comprehend that a three-year-old diaper wearing child wandering a DC neighborhood should be a priority call, and the call-taker asking if the child has any weapons fits with a lot of other anecdotal information I've gathered. This includes the recent case of a call-taker encouraging a caller to do chest compressions on someone who clearly didn't need it. Here are some undeniable facts about DC911:
1. Getting a live person to answer often takes minutes.
2. Once you get a call-taker on the line too many are poorly trained to effectively handle your emergency.
3. No one can get a real handle on just how bad things are at DC911 because Director Heather McGaffin refuses to provide required performance data, won't release required information about mistakes made by her staff, and continues to cover up high profile calls where 911 mistakes were made during incidents where people and animals died.
4. @MayorBowser and some council members are just fine with facts 1 through 3 because they've done nothing to disrupt the failing status quo.
DC911 is in crisis with multiple failures each day. Yet there's apparently nothing anyone can do about it except pray they don't need to call 911 in the District of Columbia. #FixD911

Director McGaffin welcomed emergency communications professionals and their leadership from Collier County, FL. for a 911 Operations overview, tour, demo of our call-taking protocol system, and sharing of best practices.
@STATter911@OUC_DC@dcfireems It is a travesty that your tenacity seems wasted on deaf ears, daily. Seems they’re treating OUC like a science experiment, dabbling in what might be right, instead of learning from each experiment & building a safer city.
Thank God SPRINKLERS held this at bay! @NFSAorg
