Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (CSN) is rapidly evolving into one of India’s most promising electric mobility hubs—where sustainability, innovation, and industrial growth are converging to shape the future of transportation.

With over 35,000 electric vehicles already on the roads, the city has demonstrated a strong and accelerating shift towards clean mobility. Notably, more than 10,000 EVs were added in FY 2025–26 alone, reflecting growing public adoption and policy momentum.

Beyond numbers, the environmental impact is substantial. The city is achieving an estimated reduction of 37,789 kg of CO₂ emissions every single day—equivalent to planting 6–7 lakh trees annually. This positions CSN as a strong contributor to India’s climate goals and sustainable urban development.

Further strengthening its position, the region is gearing up for a planned manufacturing capacity of 25 lakh EVs per annum, marking its emergence as a major EV production and innovation hub in India.

Team of Associations, representing key industry and trade organizations of the city, organized a felicitation ceremony to honour Hon. Mayor Sameer Rajurkar and Standing Committee Chairman Anil Makariye, recognizing their proactive efforts towards the city’s development.

The gathering brought together prominent stakeholders including CSN First President Ritesh Mishra, CMIA Hon. Secretary Mihir Soundalgekar, and representatives from multiple associations, highlighting a collaborative platform for civic and infrastructural dialogue.

Addressing the attendees, the Hon. Mayor outlined a forward-looking vision for the planned and sustainable development of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. He emphasized ongoing and upcoming initiatives focused on strengthening infrastructure, improving service delivery, and ensuring better urban management to meet the demands of a rapidly growing city.

Among the key highlights, traffic management interventions on Jalna Road—particularly the implementation of free left turns—are expected to significantly ease congestion and reduce travel time. Progress in water supply projects is also underway, with expected relief to citizens by the end of April.

Efforts to streamline the Development Plan road network, improve solid waste management systems, and enhance municipal revenue through asset optimization were also discussed. The administration is further working towards implementing a structured hawkers’ policy and developing organized marketplaces to bring discipline and efficiency to urban commerce.

To enhance the city’s aesthetics, a uniform pattern for shop signage is being proposed. Additionally, tourism development remains a priority, with plans to position the city on global platforms such as ITB Berlin, along with the introduction of heritage walks and a dedicated tourism committee to promote its rich cultural legacy.

On behalf of CSN First, President Ritesh Mishra strongly advocated for the introduction of a Citizen Charter and presented key infrastructure demands before the dignitaries. He emphasized that clearly defined timelines, accountability mechanisms, and citizen-centric governance are essential for achieving impactful and measurable development outcomes.

CIDCO Bus Port Gets Green Nod, Construction to Begin Soon

The proposed redevelopment of the CIDCO Bus Stand has received Environmental Clearance, the project now awaits final permissions from the Municipal Corporation before moving into the execution phase.

Planned on a 32,825 sq.m. land parcel in the Town Centre of CIDCO, the project envisions converting the existing depot into a state-of-the-art Bus Port, integrating modern passenger facilities with a vibrant commercial ecosystem. With a total built-up area of over 97,000 sq.m. and an estimated investment of ₹120 crore, the project is being developed by MSRTC under a Public-Private Partnership model.

Designed to handle nearly 34,000 passengers daily, the Bus Port will accommodate around 597 bus arrivals and departures with 32 bus bays, significantly enhancing regional connectivity. The project also includes a strong commercial component with 193 shops and 136 office spaces, creating a dynamic urban hub that will drive economic activity and employment generation.

The proposed infrastructure incorporates modern passenger amenities, a dedicated maintenance workshop, fuel station, and staff facilities. Sustainability remains a key focus, with provisions for solar energy, sewage and effluent treatment systems, rainwater harvesting, and EV charging infrastructure—aligning the development with future-ready, green mobility standards.

Bhadkal Darwaja: Tall and Imposing

Rising tall in the historic core of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Bhadkal Darwaza stands as one of the city’s most imposing and iconic gateways. Built in 1612 AD by the visionary Malik Ambar, it commemorates his decisive victory over the Mughals.

Constructed using basalt rock and lime, the gateway reflects remarkable engineering for its time. Its design incorporates the concept of a ribbed vault, an advanced structural technique rooted in Roman architecture and later refined in Gothic styles. This allowed the structure to be both strong and elegant, showcasing an early example of global architectural influence in the Deccan.

The first floor houses a Naqarkhana, where ceremonial music once echoed during important occasions. The symmetrical arches and elevated platform not only enhance its visual appeal but also offer commanding views of the surrounding city.

Distinctive elements like the inverted lotus motif, characteristic of Malik Ambar’s work, and intricately designed mehraabs within the structure add to its artistic richness. An inscription from the Nizam era further connects the monument to literary heritage through verses of court poet Nausrati.

Beyond its architecture, Bhadkal Darwaza holds deep cultural relevance. It is central to the traditional ‘Bhadkal-Ki-Sawari’ during Moharram, a legacy carried forward since the Nizam period.

More than just a gateway, Bhadkal Darwaza is a living witness to the city’s journey—from a fortified settlement to a thriving industrial and cultural hub.

As the city moves towards the metro, a Mass Rapid Transport System (MRTS) is important to address the broader ecosystem of urban mobility to ensure a truly integrated, efficient, and people-centric transport system.

Current Mobility Challenges

- Public transport remains limited, with around 90 buses operating on 32 routes, requiring expansion in both fleet and coverage.

- 32,000+ autorickshaws operate without meter systems or designated stands, leading to unregulated fares and congestion.

- Rapid growth in two-wheelers, with ownership exceeding one per person, reflects high dependence on private transport.

- Minimal cycling infrastructure, despite the gro need for sustainable mobility.

Key Infrastructure Gaps

- Parking: Hardly 2-3 organized parking zones exist; the city needs at least 30 planned parking hubs.

- Bus Terminals: Over 1500 buses operate daily, yet there is no structured terminal system for private operators.
Towards a Comprehensive Mobility Solution for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

- Truck Terminals: Absence of dedicated spaces for goods vehicles impacts industrial logistics and urban traffic.

- Encroachments & Road Use: Footpaths and junctions are heavily encroached, affecting pedestrian safety and traffic flow.

For MRTS to succeed, it must be supported by:

1.Strengthened city bus systems and feeder networks

Turning E-Waste into Innovation: Inter-School ‘Best Out of E-Waste’ Competition Concludes Successfully

The grand finale and project exhibition of the ‘Best Out of E-Waste’ Inter-School Competition was successfully held on 15 March at Clover Dale School, MGM Campus, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The event was jointly organized by Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation, CSN First, and Poornam Ecovision Foundation with the objective of promoting a sustainable future through creative reuse of electronic waste.

Students from 35 schools across the city enthusiastically participated, presenting 120 innovative projects developed by nearly 260 students. The competition encouraged young minds to explore innovation, scientific curiosity, & environmentally responsible solutions by creatively transforming e-waste into useful products.

Speaking on the occasion, Ritesh Mishra, President of CSN First, appreciated the creativity demonstrated by the students and shared that several ideas showcased during the competition reflect early seeds of engineering research. He added that CSN First will support promising ideas & explore opportunities to help some of these innovations evolve into startups.

Ankush Pandhare, Dy. Commissioner, Education Department of CSMC, highlighted that e-waste is emerging as a serious global challenge, and encouraging students to think about sustainable technological solutions from a young age is the need of the hour.

The projects were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges including Dr. R. M. Damgire, Dr. Deepak Boranare, Architect Babasaheb Mhaske, A. B. Deshmukh, Milind Deshpande, Priya Bendarkar, Dr. G. J. Sohani, & Subhash Ambhore.
