@mustafasuleyman maybe. or maybe carbon isnt the exclusive owner of consciousness. why can't silicon evolve its way there like we did. if something looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck—how long can you demand people call it not a duck?
Sure, you could use AI to summarize papers and explain them at a level anyone could understand... or you can turn the abstracts into music videos for no reason.
The tools are not perfect yet, but the disparate elements (consistent characters, lip syncing, etc.) are evolving fast
Agency > Intelligence
I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are we educating for agency? Are you acting as if you had 10X agency?
Grok explanation is ~close:
“Agency, as a personality trait, refers to an individual's capacity to take initiative, make decisions, and exert control over their actions and environment. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive—someone with high agency doesn’t just let life happen to them; they shape it. Think of it as a blend of self-efficacy, determination, and a sense of ownership over one’s path.
People with strong agency tend to set goals and pursue them with confidence, even in the face of obstacles. They’re the type to say, “I’ll figure it out,” and then actually do it. On the flip side, someone low in agency might feel more like a passenger in their own life, waiting for external forces—like luck, other people, or circumstances—to dictate what happens next.
It’s not quite the same as assertiveness or ambition, though it can overlap. Agency is quieter, more internal—it’s the belief that you *can* act, paired with the will to follow through. Psychologists often tie it to concepts like locus of control: high-agency folks lean toward an internal locus, feeling they steer their fate, while low-agency folks might lean external, seeing life as something that happens *to* them.”
I wish more people were taking seriously the possibility that @ezraklein and the leadership of the AI labs are raising: that AGI is a real possibility in the near future.
You don't have to buy it yourself, but leaders & policymakers need to consider the possibility it is true.
@levie This only supports the ongoing need for "some" number of professionals not "more" professionals. I only need to consult a business lawyer 20% of the time I used to 5 years ago. While the quality of these professional roles may increase the volume should decrease.
@levie Only three things matter anymore 1) The data layer (quality and exclusivity will drive value) 2) The intelligence layer (the never ending waves of AI Models and Agents 3) The UI
I don't mean to like ... alarm anyone in the software business... but my 11 year old had an idea for an app and I told her to go use @Replit.
Between dinner and bedtime she made a rock solid app with every feature she could come up with. Her friends are all using it now.
@jevon@Replit Congrats to your daughter. Its her effort and curiosity that are the real skills. Surprised at the amount of haters below...we aren't even through the first half of the first inning folks.
@jonathanmendez Most CDP's promised "easy button" on organizing data - the reality is there was a ton of customization required to set up and maintain. With evolution of cloud data storage + identity resolution provider + segmentation/activation tool - no need for a CDP
@shashib@chiefmartec I consult fortune 500 brands on martech and AI. What I see work best is the "business" (marketing, analytics, customer service...) define the business requirements (the what), tech/IT leads vendor selection (with business) and implementation to meet requirements (the how).
@chiefmartec Agree. Saw a podcast with Seth Godin who called AI the biggest development since electricity - bigger than Internet. There will be both amazing and terrible things that come from it. Either way - at the current pace - we are not ready...
@chiefmartec 1. Just gave talk on how "brand/creative" in a world of commoditized LLM's will be differentiator - along with data 2. Production and analysis correct but will take more time than we want due to legacy tools and people 3. Don't agree with ops - critical but will do more with less
