How can #Tibetans be called a "minority" in their own nation, #Tibet? A people cannot become a minority in their own homeland simply because they live under occupation or political control. Words matter. When international institutions adopt language that misrepresents a people's identity, they risk legitimizing narratives that erase their history, their nationhood, and their fundamental rights.

By calling Tibetans a "minority," you also risk reinforcing the #ChineseCommunistParty's narrative, which has been used to label not only Tibetans, but also #Uyghurs, #Taiwanese, #HongKongers, and #SouthernMongolians as 'separatists' for asserting their distinct identities and aspirations. Language has consequences, and international institutions should be careful not to lend credibility to political narratives that can be used to justify repression.
