a16z raising $15B is all over the news.
Unpopular opinion: @a16z raising $15B isn’t a story about boldness. It’s a story about capital seeking efficient deployment. The fund itself hasn’t created value yet. That happens when the money actually backs bold founders building the future.
What concerns me is a broader trend: too many VCs today fear “venturing”. In this era of AI-driven disruption, they’d rather play it safe than risk losing LP trust. Capital growing capital. Not real venture.
I get it. Uncertainty makes bold bets terrifying. But the whole point of venture capital is venture - taking risks on the unknown.
I hope @a16z, as the industry leader, reminds everyone what this game is really about. Not fundraising headlines, but backing audacious bets that change the world.

This is the paradox of blockchain: transparency gives you decentralization, but it also broadcasts your alpha to the entire world. 🧵
If this is the new standard for #YC events, that's embarrassing af. Freestyle founder sounds like he peaked in high school and never learned basic human decency. Do better or don't host events @ycombinator
Yesterday's hackathon at @ycombinator was, without exaggeration, the worst #YC event I've ever attended.
The event was led by a founder from #Freestyle - a company I'd never heard of. From the opening remarks, his tone was unnecessarily aggressive and condescending. There's a stark difference between confidence and dismissiveness, and he clearly couldn't distinguish between the two.
The contrast with co-sponsors from @morphllm and https://t.co/Pt09me4fhc was striking. Their founders spoke with professionalism and respect for attendees. This only highlighted how inappropriate the lead organizer's attitude was.
But here's where it gets worse. My friend submitted his hackathon demo, then briefly stepped out to pick up his child. I encouraged him to return when he hesitated - he'd already done the work and submitted. That encouragement is something I now deeply regret.
Within 10 minutes of returning, he was forced to leave. Building security had no issue with the child. Event staff let them in without question. But the lead organizer, drunk on his own authority, kicked them out because he "wasn't informed" about the child's presence.
The child was sitting quietly with an iPad. Not disrupting anyone. The @LumaHQ event page mentioned NOTHING about children not being allowed. When my friend politely asked why this was an issue, he was dismissed with a wave of the hand. No explanation. Just expelled.
The irony? The organizer himself opened with: "No Harassment: This is an inclusive event. Any form of harassment or discrimination will not be tolerated. Participants are expected to treat each other with respect."
Who exactly finds this inclusive? A parent with a well-behaved child gets thrown out on a power trip? This isn't inclusion - it's the opposite. If parents aren't welcome, don't call it inclusive.
@ycombinator needs to understand that allowing unqualified individuals to run events under their banner damages their reputation. @AnthropicAI, when sponsoring an event, you guys need better eyes. This #hackathon had participants of all ages working seriously on their projects. They deserved better.
The lack of self-awareness to preach inclusion while actively excluding someone for having a child present is staggering.
Good luck to https://t.co/45SoZMnlgV. You'll need it with leadership like this.
@shiteo_ @ycombinator This is why tech still has a diversity problem. How tf does @ycombinator let this happen? Parents can't even exist in these spaces without some power-tripping bro making up rules on the spot. Do better.
How I get 100% perfect sleep:
- very cold bedroom 18-20°C / 64-68°F (colder better)
- 9kg weighted blanket by CURA (adjust to your bodyweight)
- separate duvet from gf (I do this for years this might be the biggest sleep improvement)
- 3M ear plugs (I tried Ohropax wax but they only half as silent)
- eye mask
- red LED lights that go on before sleep in bedroom
- 0.2mg melatonin 45min before sleep then dim the lights (melatonin is ALWAYS sold in too high dose like
3mg, it should be 10x less or it doesn't work!)
- 4x per week cardio + strength training, my resting heart rate (RHR) is 52
- mostly clean diet of meat + vegetables + fruit + black coffee + sparkling water with lemon (and sometimes cheat with dark choco), not a lot of carbs (almost never pasta or regular potatoes for ex but sometimes rice or sweet potatoes)
- healthy biomarkers and body mass index, if you're overweight it WILL affect your sleep usually with sleep apnea etc
- read phone before sleep but with Smart Invert on and my custom super dark hack using iOS Zoom (but it doesn't zoom it just decreases brightness even further), then read Kindle a bit to really make me sleepy 😂
- we try avoid eating after 10pm, and we sleep around midnight to 1am, especially sweet stuff like fruits seem to have a bad effect on my sleep
- also DO not drink 2-3 hours before sleep or you wake up to go pee (which is more common when you get older)
- disclaimer: no kids (yet) so easy talking
Other things:
Temperature seems to be the biggest impact for me, if it gets too hot I wake up and once I wake up my brain gets active and it's sometimes hard to fall asleep. I already had this years ago and thought it was stress but even if I have life stuff going along I can sleep solid 8h without waking up if it's just a very cold bedroom.
If it's really super cold like 17-18°C / 62-64°FI just never wake up
For that you need a thick duvet though and your gf needs thicker cause women are generally colder
If you're culturally used to sleeping hotter, consider changing that because it seems to benefit almost anyone to sleep colder! An AC will do the trick.
As @bryan_johnson tells everyone, sleep is the most important thing to prioritize for your health
Good sleep benefits all your health markers, your immune system and so stops you from getting sick. Even cleaning your brain of plaque to avoid dementia when you're older
#ACS is coming... sooon.... 🔥🔥🔥 Get your wallets warmed up bruh
