Utah is the first state to enact a limited VPN ban to enforce its age-check law. Other states could follow suit.
Banning them would make it harder for journalists to protect themselves, their reporting, and their confidential sources. See why.

“Since early 2026, French counterintelligence services have dismantled nine clandestine structures operating in France under the direction of China's Ministry of Public Security. The sites were notably used to track down dissidents.” https://t.co/Fv8DDtOq0C
China’s beating the US in neuroscience:
“There is a very real possibility that without significant regulatory reform, if you’re a wealthy American, in 10 years, the only place you’ll be able to get your state-of-the-art cancer care is in Shanghai,” said Max Hodak, former president of Elon Musk’s Neuralink.

A 6-month regimen of an experimental drug for the hepatitis B virus (HBV) added to standard antivirals has “functionally cured” 19% of people in two efficacy trials, meaning they can naturally control that virus without any further treatments.
The results come from people whose chronic HBV infections were already relatively well controlled with the existing drugs, so its effectiveness in other populations that are more challenging to treat remains unknown.

Just a massive change in NYC's power grid this week. Getting almost no attention.
A 350-mile transmission line bringing hydro-electric power from Canada to NYC is now live.
Will provide enough electricity to power 1 million homes, bringing us to 40% renewable energy sources for the five boroughs. At last making up for the loss of Indian Point nuclear power plant, which used to provide 20% of our power.
The Champlain Hudson Power Express took more than 12 years to build. It was a tough political fight. Now we need to win many more fights like this.
@starstrickenSF Lost my dad to PDAC from a KRAS mutation a few years ago. Really heartened to see that others may not have to. Hope this research gets all the support it deserves.
What is the global structure of cell-state space—and how do perturbations drive transitions within it?
Excited to share our new preprint (https://t.co/ZTlAY4eaJf), a work in collaboration with @JswLab.

This paper is such a good example of how far a simple mathematical model can go in capturing complex biological dynamics.
Random matrix + critical normalization + neural population recordings → a surprisingly deep match.
Elegant as hell.

@msaunby@__apf__ It's my experience that if you're in an environment where most or all people have PhDs, nobody calls anyone doctor. Room full of quants, half or more are PhD in process engineering or physics or whatever; never hear the word once.
