Since the DSM is based on symptom clusters rather than biological biomarkers - I think there is significant overlap with the symptomatology in the prodrome of #schizophrenia with #autism. However, they are "not the same" with a new #neurotype emerging. We are just not identifying the early schizophrenia neurotype effectively. Also, there are social / environmental factors related to this. A "prodromal schizophrenia" diagnosis will rarely get someone the necessary school and medical support and relegate them to a world of psychiatric treatment that is more disability focused than even autism. Autism is granted a unique space where they can have a team of neurologists, school support, and social and environmental support (even though these are hard to obtain depending on location)... prodromal schizophrenia (and other schizophreniform conditions) is not offered the same benefit.
