#PivotTranslation #subtitling through English issues. When the translator decides to rely on their limited knowledge of the original language rather than the English template (because it's plagued with errors) and she gets it all wrong
@SusanaValdez is next up at #NITS2022 with her talk on #PivotTranslation with @RitiMenezes @indirec_trans and @ETorresSimon
@SusanaValdez @indirec_trans @RitiMenezes @ETorresSimon Also it seems that #RelayTranslation is a much more common term than #PivotTranslation
"Digital-i predicted that 50% of European Netflix and Amazon viewing will be to non-English language content by 2030."
No wonder #pivottranslation #indirecttranslation is so prominent in recent research!

If you are a researcher in #PivotSubtitling (subtitling non-English shows through English), the treatment of honourifics in #SquidGame looks pretty exciting

I'm not sure that Korean nuances cannot be translated. There are ways to render different levels of politeness in your own language, but you need to *know about them*. #PivotTranslation through English doesn't help, especially when there are no annotations in the template.
@ARTEfr Because TTBOMK, it’s the first time the dialogue has been translated straight from the original #Hindi, without #pivottranslation. 😇
@StavroulaSokoli Love to work with you!
Definitely interested in #pivotTranslation and #pivotInterpreting as I highlighted in #Seoul at #APTIF9, but I ain’t no expert in #pivotSubtitling
#PivotTranslation #IndirectTranslation: Too often, non-English #films and #series are translated thru English templates. This affects the #translation, especially if the template is not annotated. E.g., it's not always possible to disambiguate formal/informal/plural use of "you"
Hey, fellow #AVT researchers, if you do research on #SubtitlingTemplates for non-English shows, this CfP is for you. Would love to see more papers on this, both descriptive (templates here to stay) and prescriptive (why they should be avoided and ways to do it)

Dear creators of English #subtitle templates, when you work from languages which mark formality (tu/usted, tu/lei, tu/vous), pls help translators by adding a note to specify if the register is formal or informal. #PivotTranslation
