I would agree running empty trains isn't what we should be doing, BUT we NEED to have #ModalShift away from #Cars and #Planes to #ActiveTravel and #PublicTransport, #HS2 is very much a part of Public Transport by enhancing and upgrading UK railways. #SupportHS2

According to MacNaughton, ex HS2 Technical Director YouTube "The future of rail in a post Covid world" there is no case for running very frequent trains that will be largely empty. Criticises the huge cost of doing anything here. About 12 years too late.

If you take trains off one line and put them on another you increase capacity, but because fast trains need so much capacity for speed, you win back much more on existing lines. #SupportHS2.

Will be partially finished in 2029-33 so will be working earlier, and has #HS2CapacityRelease so even more benefits on other lines. #SupportHS2

The government’s research predicts motor traffic could grow by 51% by 2050 in England & Wales. The proportion of traffic in congested conditions could grow from 8% to 16%. Where are we going to put all those cars? We deserve better than a future of e-congestion.
