Stronger Together: HIV Care and Cervical Cancer Prevention
Women living with HIV face a higher risk of developing cervical cancer due to a weakened immune system. But this risk can be reduced through early detection and timely treatment. Regular cervical cancer screening identifies abnormal cell changes before they turn into cancer, helping save lives and protect futures. Cervical cancer screening is therefore not optional; it is a vital part of comprehensive HIV care.
Integrated services save lives. When cervical cancer screening is combined with HIV services, prevention efforts become stronger and health outcomes improve for women and their families. This approach ensures that every woman receives holistic, dignified, and life-saving care:
✔ Early detection of precancerous changes
✔ Timely treatment and reduced complications
✔ Improved survival and quality of life
✔ Empowered women supported by responsive healthcare providers
Every woman deserves access to life-saving prevention services. Together, empowered women and supportive healthcare providers can end preventable deaths from cervical cancer.
Take action today: get screened, encourage another woman to get screened, and protect your health and your future.

⚠️Fear or Reluctance Should Not Cost a Life
Fear, misinformation, and reluctance continue to delay cervical cancer screening for many women, yet the truth remains clear: screening is safe, quick, and confidential. It is provided by trained healthcare professionals in a friendly environment that ensures privacy and respect, and there is no shame in prevention. Reluctance fueled by stigma and false beliefs should never stand in the way of protecting your health. Screening is not a response to illness; it is a preventive health measure and a powerful act of self-care.
Cervical cancer is preventable, and screening detects abnormal cell changes before cancer develops. Early detection allows timely treatment, greatly improves survival outcomes, and reduces medical costs while ensuring better health outcomes. A screening test takes only a few minutes, but its benefits last for years thus offering peace of mind, earlier treatment, and a healthier future.
Routine cervical cancer screening is a proven and effective strategy toward eliminating cervical cancer and achieving national health goals. Protecting your health is a responsible and empowering decision, and overcoming fear and reluctance is a critical step toward saving lives.
📢Take action today: schedule your cervical cancer screening and encourage other women and girls to do the same, because screening saves lives.

📢 Did You Know?
🦠 Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common viruses in the world. It spreads mainly through skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity, and most people will be infected at some point in their lives, often without any symptoms.
⚠️ While many HPV types are harmless, high-risk strains (HPV 16 and HPV 18) can cause abnormal changes in cervical cells that may progress into cervical cancer if not detected early.
👩🏽⚕️ In Rwanda, over 95% of cervical cancer cases are linked to high-risk HPV infection.
🧬 How cervical cancer develops:
1️⃣ HPV infects cervical cells
2️⃣ Persistent infection leads to pre-cancerous lesions
3️⃣ Without screening and treatment, these lesions can become cervical cancer
✅ Cervical cancer is preventable.
Take action today:
👉 Vaccinate girls before exposure to HPV
👉Screen women regularly
👉Treat pre-cancerous lesions early
💬 Awareness saves lives. Let’s break the silence and protect our mothers, sisters, and daughters.

🦠 Cervical cancer is preventable. Rwanda has reached 90% HPV vaccination among girls, but screening remains low at 31% vs the 70% target. Youth must raise awareness, promote screening &fight stigma to achieve the 90–70–90 goals.

Cervical cancer elimination is measurable. The data shows progress and where we must intensify efforts.
#YouthAgainstCervicalCancerRw #TestToKnowRw #ScreeningSavesLivesRw
Rwanda has made strong progress in the fight against cervical cancer, but important gaps remain that require urgent action. The country has successfully achieved the 90% target for HPV vaccination among girls by age 15. This is a major milestone in prevention and shows the strength of our national commitment.
However, screening remains the biggest challenge. Only 31% of women aged 30–49 have undergone high-performance screening, compared to the 70% target. This leaves a significant 39% gap that must be addressed. Early screening is critical because cervical cancer is highly treatable when detected early.
In addition, treatment and care coverage has reached 81%, which is close to the 90% target, but still leaves a 9% gap. Ensuring that every woman diagnosed with precancer or cancer receives timely and quality care is essential to reducing deaths.
As youth, we have a powerful role to play in closing these gaps. We must raise awareness, encourage women to get screened, fight stigma and misinformation, and support access to vaccination and treatment.
Together, we can help Rwanda fully achieve the 90–70–90 targets and end cervical cancer.
