Aloha from Hawaii 🌺🌴 everyone. My biggest take away from Educ 502 was the ISTE standards. They are very relevant to integrating technology in my class. #SummerEdTech

@clemmywinebox Our district has “no agreements found” with the CA Student Privacy Alliance. I think with a District our size and with a strong IT department this is something we need to advocate for. #SummerEdTech
#summeredtech anyone else think about Ferris Bueller's Day Off and how he hacked the school computers to delete his absences? I guess (to him) that was a benefit to data information? #databreaches
A takeaway I have from this course is that technology must be used responsibly, especially in marginalized communities. Baby Zora says her takeaway is that tech education is boringgggg #SummerEdTech

A5: Speaking as a parent of 3 school aged kids, I had no clue! I imagine many are the same. I do believe parents of minority students could be further disadvantaged. I think infographics need to be made of privacy notices! @SesseJanford I hope for Privacy Alliance! #SummerEdTech
A6 Part 1: As the article suggested, Big Data can broaden the achievement gap and foster stereotype threat. Further, since marginalized students often perform poorly on standardized tests, data focuses on the deficits, and not the positives #SummerEdTech
A5: As that many of us didn’t know about Big Data, parents don’t either. The parents of minorities may not understand the technology itself, which leaves them vulnerable. Especially if areas they live are targeted for breaches as inferred by Juleen’s observation #SummerEdTech
A4: The article makes good points, but I feel transparency is most important. As the article states, transparency builds trust and confidence in the product, as well as protects students from predatory interests #SummerEdTech
A1. Prior to reading the article similar to everyone else, I had no idea about issues of Big Data and student privacy. This worries me that as @TMSBWagner mentioned in the video, students have no idea of their data usage and the long term affects of it. #SummerEdTech
A6: Marginalized students are often using supplemental technological programs to help bridge the gap, but are these programs being fully analyzed before placing students on them? Is it fully understood how the programs collect data on students? #SummerEdTech
A4: All three categories are vital in safeguarding students’ privacy, but after watching the Ed Week video I would say the Law. There have to be sanctions. Currently, parents have no right of action if their child’s privacy rights are violated. #SummerEdTech
A1: Before reading the article I was uniformed about the issues of Big Data on student privacy. I was aware of data mining on sites such as Facebook. My primary concerns about Big Data are the potential harms they can cause to students, i.e. profiling. #SummerEdTech
A1: I was moderately informed that "free" apps online are paid for with my data. However, I didn't realize how this applied to students' education. Now I worry about learning analytics and how they may suppress students' abilities rather than expanding them. #SummerEdTech
Played with @piktochart for a #summerEdTech assignment. Once I fix the typos 🙈 I think it might be a good resource for my school 🤷🏼♀️

@Jeanett32396573 @the_math_gal That would be really great if we could raise money to sponsor some of our neediest kids to go to the EPIC engineering camp! I know a lot of my students were going to go to the free camp put on by the Sheriff's Office https://t.co/dNdSR5cGg7 #SummerEdTech
@DWhite90708442 This is so true! Sometimes our students don't even see their strengths themselves or they don't know what they can do with their strengths. Let's help them make those connections (and also find new strengths and interests)! #SummerEdTech 👍
@JuleenPackard @Emily30709309 @gogabbyteach @SesseJanford I agree that through #PBL we can connect the learning for our students so it they do not exist separately, but instead are all interconnected. We just need time ⌚️ to collaborate and access to already developed projects #SummerEdTech
