I finally have all 1.2 million raw image files from my latest mission to ISS! Here is a sample of one of my favorite Milky Way photos, taken from the Cupola with Nikon Z9, Arri Zeiss 15mm lens, T1.8 with custom sidereal drive that cancelled out star motion relative to our orbit.
Interpolate between two matrices, plot eigenvalues in the complex plane. Gershgorin's theorem guides matrices design so eigenvalues form a Christmas tree. Yellow stars are the lights. Happy Holidays!

Take two large random matrices and linearly interpolate between them at several hundred steps. Compute the eigenvalues for each interpolated matrix, then plot them in the complex plane. The result is shown here.

Here is what you need to know about Open Source Oscilloscopes:
HectaScope is being built around an Artix Ultrascale+ with 50Gb/s PCIe gen4 to the host and the ADC12DJ3200 ADC, with a 6.4GSPS single channel capacity and a 2GHz frontend it will be a serious measurement machine. We'll be keeping everything open source so you will be able to learn from and improve upon the design yourself. Both HectaScope and Thunderscope are built around @azonenberg's ngscopeclient which is packed with features to analyze all sorts of signals. Normally you would pay extra for these features, but with ngscopeclient you get them included for free. We hope to even impress @DanielBogdanoff
I think neural network potentials are the most important scientific tool of the next decade. The ability to simulate systems at the molecular scale starting from nothing but quantum mechanics will be transformative for a vast range of problems throughout biology and chemistry 1/n
Scott Aaronson explains the hammer of quantum hype at the #apsmarch meeting. Every quantum company should print these two simple rules on a big poster and hang it in their office (or tattoo them on their CEO's forehead).
60 times faster than QuTiP? 🚀
Join us at the #APSMarchMeeting where we'll be presenting dynamiqs, our open source library for quantum simulations.

2023 physics laureate Pierre Agostini succeeded in producing and investigating a series of consecutive light pulses, in which each pulse lasted just 250 attoseconds. At the same time, his 2023 co-laureate Ferenc Krausz was working with another type of experiment, one that made it possible to isolate a single light pulse that lasted 650 attoseconds.

We are thrilled to share our groundbreaking paper published today in @Nature: "Champion-Level Drone Racing using Deep Reinforcement Learning." We introduce "Swift," the first autonomous vision-based drone that beat human world champions in several fair head-to-head races! PDF (open access): https://t.co/MFIfZMGkrK. Video: https://t.co/g9ckjV3O3N
The "Swift" AI drone combines deep #reinforcementlearning in simulation with data collected in the physical world. This marks the first time that an autonomous mobile robot has beaten human champions in a real physical sport designed for and by humans. The key difference to previous achievements, like IBM’s Deep Blue winning against Gary Kasparov at chess in 1996 or Google DeepMind’s AlphaGo crushing the top champion Lee Sedol at Go in 2016, is that the previous feats were limited to board games or video games.
This work represents a milestone for mobile robotics, machine intelligence, and beyond, which may inspire the deployment of hybrid learning-based solutions in other physical systems, such as autonomous vehicles, aircraft, and personal robots, across a broad range of applications.
Kudos to my coauthors @kaufmann_elia@l_bauersfeld@antoniloq, the pilots @captainvanover@bmsthomas, and our supporters @m_schaepman@UZH_en@UZH_Science@UZHspacehub@ERC_Research@nccrrobotics
Just had a couple of beers with @ChStampfer the inventor of the app #phyphox which lets you do amazing #physics experiments with the sensors of your smart phone.
Check out @phyphoxorg and let us know which experiments you have done with the app already.

STACK OVERFLOW JUST ANNOUNCED THEIR OWN AI!!!
OverflowAI is a tool, that will also have a VS Code plugin. The way this works, if you are on the site and ask a question, it will produce the answer for you while also citing the sources it used to produce the answer.
You can then ask more in the conversational area, even including code, and through Generative AI it can continue building off of the answer.
This is the right move on their part and I am confident a lot of people will be trying it out. Everything releases in August! Great job @StackOverflow. Really great announcement at the @WeAreDevs Conference!
New Danish study just out in Nature Communications, titled "Warning of a forthcoming collapse of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation".
Is it serious? Here's my take on it: https://t.co/aN3CYwQ0PI
If you want to do high-impact research, start by reading papers from 20+ years ago. Then, apply these fundamental concepts to modern science.
Most importantly, you'll get an advantage over everyone else who is only superficially parsing the latest paper feed on social media.
“The thing that most concerns me moving forward is that while there has been a lot of progress in making more qubits, the leading designs haven’t made much progress towards better qubits, meaning ones with lower error rates,” [Gottesman] explains.
What if we set GPT-4 free in Minecraft? ⛏️
I’m excited to announce Voyager, the first lifelong learning agent that plays Minecraft purely in-context. Voyager continuously improves itself by writing, refining, committing, and retrieving *code* from a skill library.
GPT-4 unlocks a new paradigm: “training” is code execution rather than gradient descent. “Trained model” is a codebase of skills that Voyager iteratively composes, rather than matrices of floats. We are pushing no-gradient architecture to its limit.
Voyager rapidly becomes a seasoned explorer. In Minecraft, it obtains 3.3× more unique items, travels 2.3× longer distances, and unlocks key tech tree milestones up to 15.3× faster than prior methods.
We open-source everything. Let generalist agents emerge in Minecraft! Welcome you all to try today: https://t.co/1d3YocozsI
