today morning when I sat in the cab at Bangalore airport the driver asked me what language I was comfortable in - my instinct told me to ensure English is mentioned first & possibly avoid Hindi

lucky he said he can speak Hindi, English (little), Kannada, & Tamil & he will talk in whatever language i was comfortable

In over 4 years I spent in Bangalore pre-pandemic, I thought of learning the language but always ignored because I could get by

but the smile or love a localite feels when you speak or try to speak their language is so vivacious that these interactions make up for the effort

i say learn the local language only for this magical moment of travel - even if it’s within the country. even if it’s a small phrase. start somewhere

having said that, I don’t think anyone should be forced at all & that this doesn’t requires political intervention
