@teagdavis @psyc220 I think this career is extremely admirable. I feel that its often the case that children get misdiagnosed at a young age which can set them back even further later in life with improper care or medication.
@sydn31 @psyc220 I think this clarity is extremely important for the general public and professionals. Especially with DMC still being a problem in America.
#CD7 @Psyc220: The job I want in the future is conducting trauma assessments on children who enter the JJS and CWS. One system of oppression that this field (social work vibes) may contribute to is high cost for effective treatment
@rachnapatelll @psyc220 I definitely agree that there was a lot of anti-asian attitudes in the midst of COVID. I remember many people placing blame and shaming Asians for being "dirty"
@jackie_stanaway @psyc220 I definitely agree with this. My dad is in his late 50s and hold a high position at his company but is constantly worried about losing his job to a younger competitor. He dyes his hair to hide the gray so that his age is less apparent
@psyc220 #CD6: One intersection not discussed in class is the relationship between low SES and mental illness. Strain theory describes how stressors involved with being in low SES such as fear caused by their environment or towards where food will be coming from 1/2
@psyc220 #CD5b #1: Jmu is not an accessible campus. When I'm walking on the steep hills or up the multiple flights of stairs to my dorm room, I often wonder what individuals with physical disabilities do if they're at JMU. More accessibility should be offered.
@SeeMiaRoll @psyc220 #CD5a #3: In our society, people often use individuals with disabilities as a platform for their own acceptance without actually practicing any policies that are inclusive to those with disabilities. Talk the talk but don't walk the walk.
@NiahDGray @psyc220 You made an amazing point with associated income and gender. Oppression affects so much more than just the individual or group, it affects all those who are in their lives and how they interact with the world
@MegCassidy26 @psyc220 I agree that there is such as stigma surrounding feminism. Many often criticize the movement believing it's anti-men when its truly pro-all people
@psyc220 #CD4: By much of society, feminism is regarded as an alt left movement that aims to bring down men to benefit women. In reality, feminism is much more and stands for ending the marginalization of all groups.
@nelltuckk @psyc220 I completely agree. Ignoring marginalized people only further promotes the problem, and any attempt to remedy the issues are truly just surface level words.
@Katevonnii @psyc220 I definitely agree that racism is institutionalized. Those who do not directly face it often ignore it, which further contributes to the problem.
@psyc220 #CD3b: This image is saying that conservatives don't care for the wellbeing of those seeking asylum because of harsh immigration conditions. Rather than discussing the cruel nature of the country they're fleeing, this post speaks on the cruel nature of their journey.
@psyc220 #CD3a:
I don't have to create a hypothetical for this prompt because, unfortunately, this is present in my extended family members who believe movements like BLM are unnecessary. I respond, that empowerment is the most important thing for those who feel oppressed.
@pagdag220 @psyc220 I think this concept appears as a type of defense mechanism to where women may feel like they will be more accepted if they diminish other women.
@rileymurphyyy12 @psyc220 I was a nanny over the summer for two young siblings (brother and sister). I can agree that these concepts are still being stressed today despite living in a more progressive society. I think a lot of parents try to shelter children from fluidity despite it being beneficial.
