NO. The Machendranathan Committee DID NOT give any adverse findings to drop the Airport Project implementation.

Several people including one estranged thozhar : ) have been raising a question which stems from the sheer lack of understanding (or wanton display of lack of understanding) of the purpose for which the Machendranathan Committee was formed.

The Machendranathan Committee was constituted to specifically study the project's hydrological impact and prescribe mitigation measures...

***that would be incorporated during the detailed design and execution of the airport project.***

I distinctly remember the detailed discussions which were held during the #DMK regime before proceeding with the detailing of the #ParandurAirport.

As someone with green fingers and a deep love for nature, I myself raised many of the questions, that are being raised today by those with sincere concern for the environment, as Minister for Industries under the #DravidianModel government of #CMMKStalin, since I wanted to be absolutely certain that the pain of displaced families would not be in vain.

The concerns regarding waterbodies, irrigation and flooding were neither ignored nor brushed aside.

They were subjected to extensive hydrological modelling, including a 100-year rainfall scenario of 371 mm in a single day.

If my memory suits me right the well researched report had detailed several mitigative measures including:

• Northern and Southern Peripheral Drains, with a capacity of several thousand cusecs, were planned to safely carry floodwater and preserve downstream irrigation.

• Some important waterbodies were to be retained.

• The possible loss of around 2.7 MCM of water-storage capacity was to be compensated by desilting and deepening 68 surrounding waterbodies.

*THUS creating an ADDITIONAL CAPACITY of 11.98 MCM, which will result in a MASSIVE 4.4 TIMES MORE STORAGE of WATER*

Effectively recharging the entire zone.
More water,more crops and happier villages.

• The scientific modelling showed that, with these mitigation measures, flooding in the project area and surrounding agricultural lands would actually be...

*LOWER THAN THAT THEY ARE TODAY !*

• Nearly ₹650 crore and ~300 acres were specifically envisaged for flood mitigation, tank restoration, regulators and drainage infrastructure.

#ParandurAirport was therefore not a reckless decision taken without studying agriculture or water security. It was a carefully examined infrastructure project with a detailed engineering solution to mitigate its environmental impact and ALSO improve the region’s overall water-storage and flood-management capacity.

Political opposition is understandable, but casting aspersions on a project just by alleging that the Committee’s report wasn’t made public is nothing but a publicity stunt, when everyone knows that its recommendations are to be addressed during project implementation with public oversights.

Cheering the destruction of Tamil Nadu’s long-term aviation, industrial future and youth aspirations without even studying the work done is neither responsible politics nor public service. 🙏🏾

அந்தப் பிரம்மாண்டமான இடத்தில் இளைஞர்களின் மேம்பாட்டிற்காக, 18.02.2026 அன்று சர்வதேச தரத்திலான மெகா விளையாட்டு நகரம் அமைக்க அடிக்கல் நாட்டப்பட்டு, அதற்கான பணி ஆணையையும் நமது திராவிட மாடல் அரசு வழங்கியிருந்தது.

ஆனால், தற்போது தவெக அரசு, எந்தவித முறையான காரணமும் இல்லாமல் அந்தப் பணி ஆணையை திடீரென ரத்து செய்துள்ளது. யாரைக் காக்க இந்தத் திட்டம் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டது? எந்த மருமகனைக் காக்க, எந்த மருமகனுக்குப் பரிசு கொடுக்க இந்தத் திட்டம் ரத்து செய்யப்பட்டது?

தவெக யாருக்காக ஆட்சி நடத்துகிறது என்பது இதிலிருந்தே தெள்ளத்தெளிவாகப் புரிகிறது. பதவியைத் தக்கவைக்க ஆக்கிரமிப்பாளர்களோடு கூட்டு வைக்கிறதா இந்த டம்மி தவெக அரசு?
