The third day of the #ይኣክል (#YAAKL) #EnoughIsEnough movement persists with sustained resolve and discontent at Romanat Square in Mekelle, Tigray. A significant assembly is convening in the square to make their voices heard by the regional and international community. Demonstrators call for expeditious action on multiple fronts: the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, the restoration of Tigray's constitutional autonomy, the immediate withdrawal of occupying forces, and the repatriation and resettlement of millions who have been displaced or compelled to emigrate from their native region.

#Ethiopia: Tigrayan opposition party calls for an end to inflammatory rhetoric, citing concerns over peace agreement

Salsay Weyane Tigray, a political party in the #Tigray region, has called for the cessation of what they describe as "hostile propaganda" targeting the people of Tigray, citing concerns that it could jeopardize the region's fragile peace process. In a statement released today, the party expressed "deep concerns" that certain broadcasts and statements are undermining the principles of the cessation of hostilities agreement.

The party points to the agreement's prohibition against disseminating hostile propaganda, yet notes a resurfacing of speeches on state media outlets that they claim incite hostility towards Tigrayans. They also highlight statements that are "collectively incriminating" the people of Tigray and oppose the return of displaced persons.

Of particular concern was a comment from the head of the Ethiopian Communication Affairs Service, which, according to the party, characterized demands for implementing the peace deal as "belligerent." The Salsay Weyane statement said this appears to contradict "the Ethiopian government's commitment to implementing the agreement under international observation."

The party called for "the immediate cessation of all actions that could jeopardize the peace process" and urged the government to intervene, calling on the international community "to pay close attention to these recent developments that threaten relapse into hostilities."

#Ethiopia: In a joint statement delivered at the United Nations Human Rights Council 55th session (#HRC55) today on the importance of transitional justice and accountability in Ethiopia, a group of 42 countries said "Ethiopia’s victims deserve justice" and called on "credible transitional justice and accountability processes" to ensure "peace and reconciliation.”

While welcoming "the continued commitment of the Government of Ethiopia and the #Tigray Interim Regional Administration to consolidate the peace process and implement the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement," the 42 countries said they "remain seriously concerned about on-going violence and human rights violations in the #Amhara and #Oromia regions” and the extension of the State of Emergency in Amhara region.

The group called on "all parties to pursue peace through dialogue and to participate in the National Dialogue process."
