As President of the Republican Party, I most strongly condemn the cowardly and uncivilised assassination attempt that endangered the life of Boris Johnson in Ukraine.

The Russian drone attack that struck the train travelling on the Kyiv–Warsaw route was not directed solely against a former British Prime Minister. Travelling alongside Johnson on the same train were several other European politicians and advisers – among them German Green Party MP Robin Wagener, as well as British, French, Italian and German security policy experts – who were returning from the Yalta European Strategy conference. The attack therefore targeted not one individual, but the very idea of European freedom and solidarity.

For years Boris Johnson has stood courageously and consistently by Ukraine. This assassination attempt only confirms that tyranny cannot tolerate those who take the side of freedom. I support him, and I express my solidarity with all those who were travelling on that train.

Free Europe must not yield to terror. Peace and democratic values cannot be silenced by drones.

What is happening now is nothing new; Aleksandar Vučić has already done this to me and to all officials of the Republican Party in Serbia. In addition to spying on my phone and the phones of my associates, he twice ordered his criminals—Milan Radoičić and Zvonko Veselinović, both of whom are on the US blacklist—to kill me. Together with criminals from the #BIA, they participated in my kidnapping, hours of torture, humiliation, and a near-fatal beating. I had to be resuscitated twice in the hospital. @JeffSonnenfeld and his team from @Yale can confirm all of this to you. You can also contact #WilliamWalker, who can provide you with all the details. Having covered Mladic's monstrous crimes in real time, I had dared to hope Serbia would not do this. I had hoped that today's young Serbs' dreams of joining Europe, being in the democracy and human rights club, might add an element of common sense, morality and restraint. But must we now conclude this IS who Serbia wants to be? A nation aligned with, and honouring, a convicted war criminal, a mass murderer, guilty of the most heinous crime under the sun: genocide. According to reports from Serbia, accredited election observers and activists were beaten and intimidated outside polling stations in Bajina Bašta. Witnesses describe groups of individuals linked to Aleksandar Vučić’s SNS operating around polling stations, creating fear and suppressing oversight.
This is what Aleksandar Vučić’s democracy looks like: thugs at the ballot box. Not an incident — a system. When violence protects power, elections are no longer free. Friends of the European People’s Party: how can you justify this? Is this really the standard you accept from your own political family?

Subject: Expression of Apology on Behalf of Normal Citizens of Serbia and Support for U.S. Efforts Toward Balkan Peace
Dear Honorable Secretary of State @SecRubio
and Esteemed Officials of the United States Department of State,
I am writing to you in my capacity as President of the Republican Party of Serbia,
a pro-Western political organization committed to democratic values,
the rule of law,
and genuine partnership with the United States and the Euro-Atlantic community.
It has come to my attention that recent public statements by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić
regarding the official meeting between Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić and yourself
were characterized in a highly dismissive manner.
President Vučić described the meeting as "completely accidental,"
stating that "there had been no prior plan for them to meet,"
and further declared that "it does not cross my mind—not with Marco Rubio, nor even with Saint Peter—to discuss Kosovo."
He emphasized that he has no intention of accepting any recognition of Kosovo's independence,
asserting that "Kosovo is Serbia, was and will remain so."
Such characterizations are not only factually inaccurate—
given that the meeting was official, pre-arranged, and documented by the State Department—
but also represent a profound disrespect toward the dignity of your high office,
diplomatic protocol,
and the seriousness of U.S. foreign policy engagement.
As a citizen of Serbia and the leader of a party that has long advocated for closer ties with the United States,
I wish to express my sincere apology on behalf of the normal, decent citizens of Serbia
who do not support or endorse such belittling, undignified, and arrogant rhetoric.
The vast majority of Serbs value the friendship and strategic partnership with the United States,
recognize the importance of respectful diplomatic interaction,
and are grateful for the consistent efforts of your administration
to promote stability, peace, and prosperity in the Western Balkans.
The meeting between Minister Đurić and Secretary Rubio,
along with other high-level discussions held in Washington in recent days,
represent valuable steps toward strengthening Serbia–U.S. relations
and addressing key regional issues,
including the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, energy security,
and broader Balkan stability.
These efforts deserve full respect and appreciation—
not dismissal, trivialization, or public mockery for domestic political gain.
I firmly support the United States' continued engagement and leadership
in fostering lasting peace and reconciliation in the Balkans.
Your administration's constructive approach, commitment to dialogue,
and dedication to regional security are essential
for overcoming divisions and building a stable, prosperous future
for all peoples in the region.
Please accept this letter as a gesture of goodwill
from those Serbs who seek genuine partnership with America
and who reject inflammatory, disrespectful, or arrogant behavior
toward our key allies.
We stand ready to contribute positively to these shared goals.
