One of the enduring puzzles of Somalia's prolonged state-building crisis is the failure to recognize political culture as the principal obstacle to building a stable state. Much of the debate has focused on constitutional design, federalism, clan dynamics, and external intervention, while paying insufficient attention to the norms and practices that shape political behavior.

However, the defining characteristic of contemporary Somali politics is its transactional nature. Political alliances, decisions, and institutions are largely driven by short-term bargaining over power, offices, and resources rather than by ideology, constitutional principles, or national interests. As a result, political loyalties are fluid, agreements are often temporary, and institutions remain weak. This culture of transactional politics has become a major obstacle to sustainable state-building, democratic governance, and long-term political stability in Somalia.

Haddii lagu siiyay cilmi, waxaa lagu weydiin doonaa sida aad u adeegsatay. Haddii lagu siiyay xil iyo hoggaan, waxaad ka jawaabi doontaa go'aan kasta oo aad gaartay. Haddii lagu siiyay maal, waxaa lagu weydiin doonaa sida aad ku kasbatay iyo halka aad ku bixisay. Haddii lagu siiyay caqli, awood ama saamayn, waxaa lagu weydiin doonaa inaad ugu adeegtay xaqa iyo dadka mise naftaada. Alle wuxuu yiri: "Markaas maalintaas waxaa dhab ahaan laydiin waydiin doonaa nimcooyinkii." (Suurat At-Takaathur 102:8)

Haddaba, ha ka masayrin nimcada qof kale. Ka cabsada culayska masuuliyadda nimcada adiga lagu siiyay. Nimco kasta oo Alle ku siiyo waa amaano, amaanad kastana waxay noqon doontaa su'aal lagugu weydiin doono Maalinta Qiyaame.

@DrBaadiyow Although one should not lose hope, I am worried after 35yrs of cynical behaviour of all Somali political elite who can’t grasp the dire situation of Somalia & it’s people, SOMALIA will vanish as a country in less than another 35yrs & the land will be taken over by other nations.

Today’s Irony in Mogadishu

Today, representative of the Somali political opposition and the regime met at the Turkish Hotel at Aden A. Osman International Airport.
Most Somalis are praying for peace and for a fair electoral process that would undo Hassan Sh’s authoritarian and deeply corrupt roadmap.  
In addition, the public are seriously worried about the possibility of the dictator instigating a new civil war. What he did in Baidoa, and his attempts to encircle Puntland have all the hallmarks of the dying days of a morally bankrupt regime.

Despite the prayers and the well wishes of the public, the Somali political opposition made a serious mistake by allowing the Turkish Deputy Chief of Intelligence to be a mediator.
It is exceptionally ironic that the Somali opposition thought that the regime in Ankara, widely known for its heavy handedness against the Turkish opposition, would  play a neutral role. Come on!

My dear Somalis.  Prayers alone are not enough. Wake up!
