Today is my daughter Awa’s birthday.
Of all the roles I have been entrusted with — academic, diplomatic, public — the one that has taught me most is the simplest: being a father. Daughters teach you patience without lecture, courage without volume, and the quiet discipline of loving someone whose path is their own to walk.
I am grateful to Allah SWT for her, and for the privilege of watching her become the bright, kind, thoughtful young woman she is. May this year bring her clarity, barakah, and every righteous door her heart has prayed for.
Happy birthday, Awa. May Allah grant you the best of what you have asked for, and the best of what is better for you than what you have asked.

Grateful Beyond Words ❤️
To every beautiful soul who reached out with kind messages, calls, posters, and heartfelt tributes — thank you. Each gesture, whether public or private, touched me more deeply than words can express.
A special thank you to my incredible family and friends who went above and beyond — even pulling off a wonderful surprise while I was away on mission and engagements on my birthday! You put a smile on my face and made this celebration truly unforgettable.
Heartfelt gratitude to the AATF Family, my dearest Saidou Ndow, and darling Jai Fye for hosting me for dinner, the delicious cakes, and gathering such wonderful family and friends who surprised me with their presence, kind words, and gifts.
To my dearest Penda Gaye and Brother Michael Acquah — thank you for the beautiful posters and the thoughtful words you shared. They truly moved me. (Posters replicated below.)
This year, we didn’t just celebrate another birthday — we celebrated the precious Gift of Life from Allah SWT, a blessing that keeps unfolding with every breath, every smile, and every soul He places along our path.
May Allah reward you abundantly, multiply your blessings, and return your kindness manifold.
With love and endless gratitude 🤲❤️🌸✨

🌹 Happy Birthday, Dearest Mariama 🌹
Years ago, our home was blessed with a light that has never dimmed — and that light is you, my dear Taaw.
Today, as a father, my heart is full. I am profoundly proud of the woman you have become — graceful in character, strong in faith, generous in spirit, and steady in purpose.
Watching you grow has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. Being called your Baaba remains my greatest honour.
On this special day, I lift my heart in prayer for you:
🌿 May every righteous desire of your heart be answered, swiftly and abundantly.
🌿 May peace dwell in your soul, strength in your spirit, and joy in every step you take.
🌿 May light surround your path, and may the years ahead be richer than anything you have imagined.
🌿 May love, grace and goodness follow you wherever you go.
You came through us, my daughter — but you belong to your own beautiful destiny. May you walk it with grace, courage, and joy.
Happy birthday, my beloved daughter. You are, and will always be, the joy of my heart. ❤️
With all my love, all my prayers, and all my pride,
Daddy — Baaba — Burumdaaru ❤️🌸✨

Ideas shape the future. On #WorldIPDay, we recognize the role of intellectual property in supporting creativity and development. Geneva, home to @WIPO and many international organizations, remains a key hub for shaping global innovation frameworks.

There’s great interest in what really happened at the WTO’s MC14. At Harvard University with faculty and staff discussing this, the state of global trade, and the room for WTO Reforms. Very interesting to debate macroeconomic policy management with Professor @jasonfurman’s Macroeconomics Class (EC10) in Sanders Theatre. This was a class I took 53 years ago in the same venue. Great questions from brilliant students. Among faculty, was happy to be joined by Professors David Laibson, Pol Antràs, Myrto Kalouptsidi, Marc Melitz, Dani Rodrik and Gordon Hanson. thank you for your animating conversation, intellectual strength and wisdom.
“In my view, Africa does not need to import a single model of agrifood transformation. What we need is strategic coherence that links technology, institutions, finance, and governance grounded in evidence and adapted to African realities,” emphasized Amb. Prof. @mkah, Permanent Representative of the Gambia to @UNGeneva; Member, @MaMoPanel.

AI can be a game-changer for human rights: it can predict crises, transform healthcare and education, tackle food insecurity, and more. But to achieve this, we need to embed human rights in #AI by design, and invest in AI that puts rights first.

Elevating The Gambia’s Voice @ the #HRC61 side event: “Advancing Accountability and Justice for the Durable Solution of the Rohingya Crisis”
Co-organized by the Delegation of the European Union to the UN and other international organisations in Geneva and the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh.
The humanitarian crises, relentless campaign of repression and systematic denial of fundamental rights of the people of Myanmar represents one of the biggest human rights challenges of our time.
The Gambia is particularly concerned by the escalating violence against civilians, forced recruitment and sexual violence perpetrated by all parties to the conflict.’
We remain deeply concerned by the continued suffering of the Rohingya Muslim minority.
Nearly a decade after the commencement of the genocidal violence against them, it is disheartening to note that millions remain displaced, stateless, persecuted, and vulnerable to life threatening health complications.
We note with serious concern reports of waning international support for the people of Myanmar and the political will to ensure accountability for grave human rights violations. Accountability remains the only safeguard against further atrocities and for ensuring justice for all victims.
In this regard, The Gambia reiterates the importance of international efforts to hold the Myanmar Junta to account, including the ongoing proceedings before the International Court of Justice.
