🚨 Postdoc position in my lab @calico is live!
I'm looking for someone deeply curious about the aging brain🧠⌛️, who wants to build novel scientific projects from scratch and carry them to publication and, ideally, into their own lab🥼🧪. No neuroscience background needed.
Excited to share our new paper led by Josh Meisel w/ Gary Ruvkun. Worm suppressor genetics + biochemistry reveal that balance of frataxin and FDX2 levels is key for Fe–S cluster synthesis. Lowering FDX2 alleviates frataxin deficiency in multiple models.

Single case > new insights. Increased perfusion BEFORE other MRI changes during a MELAS stroke-like episode + ictal-interictal continuum during symptomatic period.

Hypoxia in a pill!
Chronic, continuous 11% FIO2 suppresses brain pathology in models of mitochondrial disease and aging, but we need practical alternatives. We combine a Hb "left-shifter" with a HIF2a inhibitor to achieve therapeutic hypoxia in mice.

Continuing with #COP16Cali today I learned a lot about Green Cities 🌳 🏙️ including from my high school friend who is now an amazing landscape architect @anamirandave#CasaHumboldt
Hypoxia rescue (& hyperoxia sensitivity) of mito CI mutants is evolutionary conserved! Harnessing the power of worm genetics, Josh Meisel w/ @gary_ruvkun discovers “hypoxia mimetic” and “hypoxia resistant” mutants, yielding key mechanisms. https://t.co/h2CVsAFsGW
Delighted to share new study by Tslil Ast now @WeizmannScience w/ Y. Itoh, D. Suess, @A_Amunts showing (1) the Fe-S proteome is destabilized w/frataxin loss, (2) mitoribosome assembly factor METTL17 harbors a 4Fe-4S cluster, serving as an Fe-S checkpoint for mito translation.
If you’re a fan of metabolism, mitochondria and their role in disease mechanisms, we have a great opportunity to work with us in Stockholm. We are looking for an enthusiastic PostDoc to join our group in @MolMet_KI at Karolinska Institutet. @mitojobs
