@mr_erichanna My 4th grade class has really been enjoying listening to me read your book! They were disappointed when CPA closed before your talk. Would you be interested in joining a Zoom call with us sometime? We would love to hear from you!
@RauMiss A22 In my classroom, we had students use unifix cubes to make a tower of ten cubes. Students would compare the tower to various objects around the classroom and classify them as more or less than the tower. #OSUElemMath
@YeseniaCortes01 My school has a family day for parents to come in and see what is happening in the classroom. My CT introduced the families to the way we do math by showed them "What Doesn't Belong" and explained that we are working on our thinking and that there is no right answer. #OSUElemMath
@Miss_Morris7 @DelaneyMathews1 Around the world was never a helpful game for me in school. I noticed that I got out early because I did not know my facts. When I got to sit down, I was not getting as much practice.
@Miss_Heck A17 I remember memorizing how to divide fractions by flipping the second fraction and multiplying, but no one told me why it worked. #OSUElemMath
@MrsN_Trimble@AnnRoFlo @MissTrigg_Cbus I think that is so helpful! I have noticed that when I let students share their strategies, it can cause another student to think about another way to do it.
@AnnRoFlo A13 In Kindergarten we did a 3 act math with an apple core we had. The kids looked at it and guessed how many seeds were inside. We cracked it open and counted to see how close their guesses were. #OSUElemMath
@AshleyLanghals@MissMantel I love that you made the connection to other subject areas! I can see how this would also be helpful in writing. When I hear other ideas it helps me think of something to add to my own writing.
@YeseniaCortes01@TeachWithMissA I have never seen this strategy before! It could be helpful for mentally calculating math problems. The visual is also very helpful!
@TeachWithMissA One of our centers is counting jars. The students count what is in the jar and show it on a worksheet with a jar on it. I noticed one student pick up an item, draw it, then put it into the jar. The student also double checked by counting the items he drew on his paper.
@MissMantel We use compare and connect in our kindergarten math class when we have our students represent numbers. Students can show just the number six or six objects. This can also show students subatizing the same number in different ways. There is no "right way"! #OSUElemMath
@Ms________K@missnungester@miss_furno My teacher also gave timed multiplication quizzes. It always stressed me out more! She let students stop taking the quizzes when they got them all correct within the amount of time. She also had a board on the wall showing who completed their multiplication quizzes.
@iamfeeny@professorteds@missedwards321 @Miss_Morris7 @STMath I teach 3rd grade math afterschool, and one game we played was battleship! It helped them practice using a coordinate grid.
@ClovettaC@Mr_MullCbus I agree! I do not like sharing with the entire class, but I am more likely to show my work in other ways. I think that this is why it is useful to encourage students to show their thinking in math journals. That way you can still understand their process.
@Mr_MullCbus My class gives my CT a secret thumbs up right in front of their chest so other students can keep thinking without stressing over everyone else having the answer. #OSUElemMath
@AnnRoFlo@missnungester I love that your CT says "don't erase your work". It lets the students know that it is okay to make mistakes. We can always learn from our mistakes!
