How robots are learning human skills, like knitting.
What if robots could take on tasks requiring human-level dexterity, like knitting, decorating cakes, or installing drill bits? Acumino’s 2024 showreel demonstrates exactly that.
These AI-powered robots are designed to handle intricate tasks with precision, opening up new possibilities for industries and everyday applications.
Why does it matter?
Acumino’s technology showcases how robots can go beyond repetitive jobs to tackle tasks that require delicate, humanlike movements—potentially transforming fields like manufacturing, food preparation, and even home services.

Caribbean nation Guyana is booming after discovering oil. BBC’s Stephen Sackur puts it to President @presidentaligy; lobbyists say oil is bad for the climate.

The popular dish Nachos is named after Ignacio Anaya (1895–1975), a Mexican man who lived near the US border. Anaya worked as a head waiter in a restaurant and led a rather uneventful life until a transformative moment in 1943.
On that day, a group of American army wives visited the restaurant. With the chef nowhere to be found, Anaya had to think quickly. His son later shared this story with interviewers:
My father was maître d' and he said “Let me go quick and fix something for you.” He went into the kitchen, picked up tostadas, grated some cheese on them — Wisconsin cheese, the round one — and put them under the salamander (a broiling unit that browns the top of foods). He pulled them out after a couple of minutes, all melted, and put on a slice of jalapeño.
This impromptu creation turned out to be a massive hit. The dish was added to the menu under the name "Nacho's Especiales."
Following its success, Anaya was promoted to the position of chef. When the restaurant he worked at shut down in 1961, he seized the opportunity to open his own establishment.
The name "Nacho" is a common diminutive for Ignacio in Spanish.
Thus, the dish was named in honor of its creator, Ignacio Anaya, now fondly remembered as the Father of Nachos. His legacy lives on through this beloved dish, a testament to his creative and quick-thinking spirit.
Today is the tenth anniversary of the day a perfectly normal meteoroid from our own Solar System hit Earth somewhere poorly known near Papua New Guinea and did nothing unusual except have its velocity mismeasured. To this day it continues to not be aliens.

I cannot help but think it is a manifestation of human exceptionalism. A relict of a time when the only kind of intelligence was human intelligence.
We are really far beyond that. The concept of intelligence has been pluralized.
AI can be intelligent without being human. In fact, what makes it so interesting is precisely that it is a non-human form of intelligence.
In The Beginning of Infinity I invented a story to illustrate that even logically consistent fiction can be a bad explanation. I asked ChatGPT about it:
