Today @ifrc announced a major expansion of one of the world’s only means of channelling international funds directly to frontline disaster responders.
Since its inception @IFRC_DREF has supported more than 200 million people around the world.

Over the past week, the @IFRC_DREF has allocated more than CHF 800,000 for the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in India, Myanmar and Bangladesh to initiate early action in response to #CycloneAmphan. Additional allocations are expected to scale up the response.
In addition to the funds released for the Forecast-based Early Action protocol, the DREF released an additional CHF 300k last night for the @BDRCS1 to expand the early action. Same trigger, same response, more safe people!

Yesterday, the @BDRCS1 activated their @IFRC_DREF Forecast-based Early Action Protocol, immediately releasing CHF 134,000 for the evacuation efforts to take place prior to impact. Great to see how effective pre-agreed actions, funding and triggers can be!

Impressive 2019 figures for the @ifrc@IFRC_DREF - CHF 30M for response and CHF 2M for anticipatory action from the Forecast-based Action to 77 different countries. Additional griwth expected in 2020. The team is working on the full report to be issued in April.
