The condition of Sheetal Talav near LBS Road, Kurla, west has raised serious concerns among local residents. According to local sources, large quantities of garbage are being dumped around the lake by nearby buildings and residents, affecting the beauty and environment of the water body.

Residents have also alleged that some Solid Waste Management (SWM) vehicles are seen dumping waste in the vicinity. If these allegations are true, then a serious question arises: Is the SWM Department itself contributing to the deterioration of the lake's condition instead of protecting it?

Another major concern is that the beautification and development work of Sheetal Talav appears to be incomplete. Has the project funding already been sanctioned? If so, why is the work still pending? Has the contractor failed to complete the project despite receiving approvals and funds?

The L Ward administration must conduct an immediate site inspection and place all details regarding sanctioned funds, project status, contractor responsibilities, and pending work in the public domain. Citizens deserve transparency and accountability regarding the condition of this important public water body.

Allegations of Land Grabbing and Illegal Construction in MMRDA Colony, Goregaon West.

Serious allegations of land grabbing and illegal construction activities have surfaced from MMRDA Colony, Boris Compound, near Ram Mandir in Goregaon West. According to local residents, members of the Jilani Group allegedly pressured slum dwellers and demolished their structures. It is further alleged that the land was later fenced off by the Jilani Group in partnership with Shabbir and Fawaj Memon.

Residents claim that the MMRDA Encroachment Department had previously carried out demolition action in the area behind HDFC House at Memon Compound. However, concerns remain regarding the existence of several alleged illegal structures. Local sources claim that Jilani Compound No. 1 contains more than 15 unauthorized structures, while Jilani Compound No. 2 has over 20 such structures.

Additionally, residents have raised concerns regarding an allegedly illegal hall constructed on an open plot measuring approximately 30,000 sq. ft. Allegations have also been made that bogus documents were submitted before the court and the MMRDA Legal Department in connection with the structure.

Citizens have urged the MMRDA Commissioner to conduct a thorough investigation, take swift demolition action against all unauthorized constructions, and register FIRs against those found responsible for encroachment. The 101.36-acre Cluster Redevelopment Project at Gilbert Hill, Juhu Galli and surrounding areas of Andheri West is expected to impact thousands of families and numerous community landmarks. According to local residents, more than 28 religious structures fall within the project boundaries.

Despite the scale and sensitivity of the issue, no detailed public roadmap has been presented by the MLA, MP, Corporator or SRA regarding the status of these structures.

Residents are asking:

The condition of the major storm water drain (nalla) along Asalpha–Kherani Road, near Andheri–Ghatkopar Link Road, is extremely alarming. Large quantities of debris (bedris), encroachments, small structures, utility pipelines, cables, and other obstructions can be seen inside and around the drain. Despite annual allocations for desilting and maintenance of major nallas, the present ground reality raises serious questions about the effectiveness of the work carried out and the utilization of public funds.

Questions on Nalla Maintenance and Public Funds

Residents are asking where the funds allocated every year for desilting, cleaning, and maintenance of major nallas have been spent. If substantial public money has been utilized, why does the drain remain in such a neglected and hazardous condition?
