Today, we are announcing H1. H1 is a model developed by @HandoffAI that performs autonomous construction takeoffs at the level of a human estimator.

This is an incredible accomplishment for our team that has been in the works since we started the company in 2019. I also believe that this is a monumental step forward for the construction industry as a whole.

Why does this matter? Until now, reading a set of construction drawings and extracting a detailed understanding of how to build a project required a human. That is what a takeoff is.

H1 automates this process entirely, meaning that any construction drawing can now become machine-readable. With a single API call, you can accurately extract all of the characteristics of a building, including detailed material quantities down to every single stud and nail.

Combined with Handoff’s existing AI estimating models and live construction cost data, this also means that every construction drawing can become an accurate construction budget, with materials that can be purchased directly through our supplier partners in just a few clicks.

From the early days of Handoff, we said that we were codifying the language of buildings and developing an abstraction layer that would enable anyone to interact with construction blueprints as if they were structured data.

This is no longer a demo. H1 is available to thousands of construction companies on the Handoff platform, as well as at thousands of Pro Desk locations across every US state.

In addition to announcing our model, we’re publishing a research paper that describes how we built it. We’re also open-sourcing the benchmark we use to validate that Handoff outperforms every foundation model, as well as human estimators, on a set of permissioned construction blueprints.

If you are a construction supplier or an enterprise looking to integrate AI takeoffs into your systems, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me and we’ll set you up with access.

Let’s build something great.

Congratulations @Gedmark and @Astranis on this landmark partnership.

[John Gedmark @Gedmark]

Very excited to announce that Astranis is building a new satellite for Oman.

We've signed a 9-figure contract with MB Group —the largest oil and gas conglomerate in Oman— to bring Oman its first dedicated communications satellite.

This partnership was announced today in Oman with the leadership of MB Group and senior government officials from the Oman Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.

The deal is part of an overall $200 million investment by MB Group in sovereign connectivity, advancing the Vision 2040 program by the Oman government. This satellite will go up on our Block 3 launch later this year, going from contract to operations in months, not years.

Sovereign connectivity is no longer optional. Countries need private, secure networks to know their data is secure and in the right hands.

Astranis builds dedicated satellites that make this possible, giving our customer full control over payload configuration, coverage, and network operations.

We are the only company that gives our customers a standalone, dedicated network that spans their geography of choice and delivers enterprise-grade security, customizability, and operational visibility of the network and data traffic.

This type of infrastructure is impossible to replicate with shared networks or terrestrial links alone. And that's why countries like Oman and Taiwan are choosing Astranis.

We built Astranis on the belief that access to secure, reliable communications infrastructure is foundational to growth. It's an honor to partner with MB Group and Oman, and we look forward to supporting the people of Oman and their digital future for many years to come.

Excited to be a part of this next chapter in construction alongside @alexmodon and @TaraViswanathan.

[Alex Modon @alexmodon]

For most of my life, I assumed technology only moved in one direction: Faster, better, cheaper.

Progress felt inevitable.

But if you look at the industry that once embodied American ambition, that's not happening.

Over the past 50 years, our ability to build large construction projects has not just stagnated, it has eroded. We built faster, better, and cheaper in the 1960s than we do today. What a shame.

This is happening at the exact moment we need to build more than ever. More energy to win the AI race, more critical minerals to secure our supply chain, and more advanced manufacturing to reindustrialize.

In the last decade, China built an order of magnitude more energy infrastructure than the US. This is not how we win.

That is why we’re building Unlimited.

We are an AI-native, vertically integrated construction company. We’ve raised a $12M seed round co-led by @a16z (@KTmBoyle) and CIV (Abhijoy Mitra) to redefine how humanity builds. We’re going to automate construction end to end and ensure a future of radical physical abundance. A world where cities rise at the push of a button.

Today we are designing and building $100M+ data centers, power plants, and mining facilities. Our AI platform compresses engineering timelines from months to days and delivers optimized designs that simply are not achievable through manual effort.

The thing I am most proud of is the team we are building. A small, hyper talented group of multidisciplinary builders who work with intensity, care about craft, and genuinely give a shit.

If you want to tackle problems that reshape the physical world and define the new playbook for how civilization builds in the decades ahead, reach out. We are hiring across mechanical, electrical, civil/structural, simulation, and software.

We started the company earlier this year, raised money, built out the core technology and team, and kicked off our first real projects. And we’ve done it all under the radar until today. Excited to continue building the team that will build the future of our physical world.

It's time to build. @unltdindustries

The interface of the future is human.

We’ve raised a $40M Series B from CRV, Scale, Sequoia, and YC to teach machines the art of being human, so that using a computer feels like talking to a friend or a coworker.

And today, I’m excited for y’all to meet the PALs: a new human-computing interface.

PALs are emotionally intelligent, multimodal, and capable of understanding and perceiving. They can see, hear, reason, and even look like us.

We’re releasing our 5 favorite PALs to start. Each PAL has its own distinct personality- from AI assistants to best friends.

PALs:
- Meet us where we are. Face-to-face over video call, on the phone, or even by text.
- Are always thinking. They’re proactive, reach out first, remind you about what you forgot, or might just check in on you.
- Understand us, finally. PALs can see us, understand our tone, emotion, and intent, and communicate in ways that feel more human.
- Evolve with you. PALs have advanced memory, remember your preferences and needs, and adapt themselves over time.
- Are capable. PALs can handle complex tasks — from responding to your emails to moving your schedule around to creating docs and doing research for you.

Science fiction promised us a new human-computer interface, beyond the GUIs of yesterday, a human-like interface that would feel second-nature to use. That future never came, until now.

Charlie’s story brings this idea to life.

We’re excited for you to meet Charlie and his PALs for free at https://t.co/Kv2ep94noE

Thank you @keithwhor for the steadfast words on our Partner, @mlmilleratmit - He is certainly one of the good ones, if not one of the great ones.

[keith @keithwhor]

while building my first company we got a *very good* acquisition offer early on. one of my investors tried very hard to convince me to take it.

i was young, i figured if you get an offer like this early, you’ll see more later. was also just generally high ego + conviction + wasn’t confident about the idea of being an employee. we never got another offer that good. I had tunnel vision on what I wanted to build. truthfully i still have this tunnel vision! but after many stumbles i’ve learned to be a little more confident in it - the weakness & strength of it

what’s interesting is out of all of our investors; this same investor who tried (very hard) to convince me to sell the company & was almost certainly right is one of the few who invested in my second company right out of the gate.

he was a minority stakeholder but spent many hours on the phone with me walking through my decisions at every turn. he was a former exited founder himself and over many years he saw the mistakes i was making in real time and listened intently - and let me make them. he didn’t get frustrated or lose faith; he gave strong advice but just let me do my thing and learn the hard way. when i didn’t listen to him he didn’t write me off, he just accepted my fallibility and potential for growth.

i’ve learned a lot about real leadership, friendship, investment and even fatherhood from @mlmilleratmit. one of the good ones & 10/10 recommend.

@keithwhor We couldn't agree more.
