African governments need to prepare now: strengthen regulatory systems, plan delivery, secure financing and engage communities before successful vaccines reach the market.

Countries should also work together on procurement and price negotiations rather than compete for limited supply.

Africa is helping drive the science. The next test is whether political and health systems are ready to deliver it.
