๐๐ง ๐๐ก๐ข๐ง๐: Regarding the China debate that has been raging here, a phrase I've heard asked many times is: "What if the next Keytruda comes from China?" Well, this morning I posed this Q to the developer of Keytruda, who has also been in licensing drugs from China lately.
1/ US biotech is in crisis, right before AI should be saving millions.
China is stealing away our industry and has surpassed the US in blockbuster pharma deals.
The next FDA Commissioner must be a fighter, and have a plan to overhaul the agency, beat China, and unleash cures.
@draparente first-in-class % pipeline (50% weight), novel modality or target % pipeline (30% weight), breakthrough/priority review designations (20% weight). each given a normalized score across the cohort. some further sub-category weights for greater degree of novelty, etc
Claude analysis of Top 30 Pharma clinical pipeline novelty score (%first-in-class, # breakthrough, novel biology) vs stock performance over 5 and 10 year periods. Interesting that past pipeline novelty correlates with forward performance, which correlates with current novelty.

@jhuber The REGN return profile suffers from its last 2 years - had I shifted to end in 2024, it would look quite good. If the analysis holds!, I expect that their current pipeline novelty and breadth should do quite well over time.
Thrilled to share that @GraySwanAI raised $40M in Series A funding led by @Wing_VC and @MadronaVentures. Our mission is to empower the world to use AI safely and securely. We look forward pushing the frontier in AI Security!

Excited to share our study by @keylas3 et al. on pathological autoantibodies in people with Long COVID. We asked whether IgG in patients with Long COVID bind to human tissues/antigens and cause pathologies when transferred into mice. With @PutrinoLab

Thrilled to share I've started at @Stanford's Department of Pathology (@StanfordPath) in addition to @ArcInstitute. Looking forward to a shorter commute after 5 years at @BerkeleyBioE and embarking on daring new projects
We're recruiting multiple postdocs and technical staff๐
Valius for the win! Well, one of the strange things about having an incurable disease is you get to see the very best of science. @Valius_Sciences and @ealarkin7 are doing great work - they found an expression on my tumor that is targetable but went unnoticed by everyone else. Thank you @ealarkin7 , Alicia and Sarah!
@huggingface has been home to Tahoe's foundational dataset (Tahoe-100M downloaded over 400k times) for a while. Now, we are excited to celebrate Hugging Science. You can build on our single-cell perturbation data and tap into the overall 100TB of data across 450+ open datasets. Exciting times ahead ๐

It's time for all drug developers to reconsider heavily relying on Wuxi to synthesize their proprietary compounds
How $ERAS obtained ERAS-0015 from Wuxi>Joyo>$ERAS should be a case study
$RVMD used Wuxi to synthesize their very early pan-RAS compounds, and guess what? Wuxi imminently came up with the nearly identical structures as Darax and tried to patent that...
Macrocyclic peptides can provide stable, cell-permeable drugs for difficult intracellular disease targets. exciting opportunities and partnerships ahead for @unnatproducts
๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐: Unnatural Products has built its expertise in developing macrocyclic peptides. It had already landed four major partnerships before raising its series B in March.

We achieved state-of-the-art performance in predicting which of 4.2 million genetic variants cause diseases by interpreting a genomics model, in a new preprint with @MayoClinic.
We're now releasing an open source database for all variants in the NIH's clinvar database. ๐งต(1/8)
Already gave this a rip for some VUS and Suspected Pathogenic variants that I have previously done deep analysis on, and can confirm that EVEE posits many of the same findings and conclusions that I have found in terms of prediction and suggested failure mechanism
Examples:
VUS (for which *I* am the only ClinVar entry) for one of my heterozygous mutations in DNAH5 that could play a ~small~ factor in the overall root cause of my PCD
My Variant of CLCN1 that gives me a rare muscular disorder (which makes me look like Wolverine without needing to go to the gym, so not all bad ๐คทโโ๏ธ)
EVEE is a nice tool for variant interpretation!
Every oncologist and cancer researcher should watch this interview with @BenSasse:

Daraxonrasib, a โsuper poison for cancer,โ shrank his metastatic pancreatic tumors by 76%, even though he says his skin feels and looks โnuclear.โ When I learned of his diagnosis, I wanted him to get this drug (oral RAS ON inhibitor), which is poised to become first-line therapy in pancreatic cancer. I hope his experience on a clinical trial encourages more patients to enroll in studies, and pushes clinicians and researchers to keep advancing new therapies.
