We are a pan-India body of medical professionals and researchers keen on adoption of harm reduction strategies in drugs/tobacco control and public health.
Not surprised by the common misconception that nicotine causes cancer
We suggest re-reading any textbook of pharmacology
Truth-telling, a major pillar of healthcare as it directly influences autonomy and health choices, is only possible if we doctors know the truth ourselves.
@bhavinj I really don’t know what is happening around, milk 🥛 and its products have become dangerous things to eat! Cigarettes nicotine no longer causing cancer! Is this some kind of commercial manipulation like mobiles or network doesn’t harm us! 🤔🤔🤔
@mehtanikhil@bhavinj Saddened, but not surprised to hear another doctor, who thinks, nicotine is carcinogenic. Nicotine causes dependence, it's the tar and other chemicals, when tobacco is burnt, that cause cancer.
The Ban on E-Cigarettes in India - Has the Time Come to Reconsider?
....given that nicotine is not carcinogenic per se and data suggests that e-cigarettes help those who want to stop smoking...

I would really like to read more personal shares on negative health effects caused by #vaping. So many on social talking about the positive impact it has had on their lives. Where are the negatives?

Cochrane review published in Jan 2024:
"There is high‐certainty evidence that ECs with nicotine increase quit rates compared to NRT and moderate‐certainty evidence that they increase quit rates compared to ECs without nicotine."

E-cig:
"It is now time for the medical community to acknowledge the progress & add e-cigarettes to smoking-cessation toolkit. The burden of 🚬related disease is too big for potential solutions such as e-cigarettes to be ignored"

RCTs - Gold Standard of evidence for efficacy / harm. Strangely, vaping RCTs are restricted, even de-facto prohibited by @NMC_IND
Considering our tobacco control fixation on cessation-only approaches, are we ok with a success rate <1%
And 1.3 million people dying each year?
The Philippines joined other countries in pushing for tobacco harm reduction as part of strategies to mitigate the impact of smoking on public health during #COP10FCTC

At #COP10FCTC, we notice big concern about vaping. We urge nations to consult others that have regulated well than those that banned badly. Further, most country reports are missing humanity towards 1.3bn users. Please do more to #HelpSmokers.
@FCTCofficial@TheGGTC@WHOsearo
While one arm of @WHO, @IARC, estimates meteoritic rise in global cancer by 75% by 2050 and flags @tobacco as 1 of its 3 main drivers, the other arm, @FCTC, has to pragmatically shift gear in its efforts to control tobacco @MoHFW_INDIA

I agree with many points in this article, especially one questioning the ludicrous research ban
BUT i have a problem with prioritising heated tobacco products over vapes, especially when vapes are better as quit-smoking tools
Why not both? With risk-proportionate regulation?
