Our preprint is out in @NatureComms where we (with Santen Lab @Saar_Uni) show that vesicles transported by dynein and kinesin exhibit bidirectional motility (with reversals, pauses and fast runs) without any regulators. @digsbb@BCUBE_TUDresden@PoLDresden

Finally published-here we show opposite polarity motors bound to vesicular cargo are sufficient for directional reversals. Motors engage in a brief tug-of-war which is resolved by stochastic fluctuations in the number of engaged dynein and kinesin motors diffusing on cargo.
A Golgi protein in a cell videoed through a microscope. The Golgi is on the left and I over saturated the display so that we can see the dimmer vesicles trafficking around the cell that also contain sialyltransferase (#FancyScienceWord). #CellBiology
To move or not to move: A novel in vitro assay successfully recreates intracellular bidirectional cargo transport.

John, Sergio and I are delighted to share a review that was years in the making. Determinants, maintenance, and function of organellar pH. It has something for everyone! https://t.co/Uwi33yZQBI
@StefanDiezLab@Saar_Uni Long range motility of vesicular cargo propelled by opposite polarity motors, mimicking intercellular transport, reconstituted in a minimal system.
Very excited to share the preprint of our new results in collaboration with Santen lab (@Saar_Uni). We show Dynein and Kinesins can drive bidirectional vesicle transport in vitro with directional reversals, without regulators. https://t.co/ZKxnd81a73
I am excited beyond words that this is now out: https://t.co/hC5rDy8aRw.
After so many years of hard work, we can finally answer maaany questions about IFT… 🎉
Thanks Sam @stanuel02 Lacey, @_Helen_Foster_, the cryo-EM facility @humantechnopole, and notably also #AlphaFold2! ❤️
Research on the molecules that seem to resolve inflammation, formally known as specialized pro-resolving mediators, has exploded over the last three decades—but some critics argue a large chunk of these studies may be based on flawed science. https://t.co/BCROG0CBCn
