The first 1000 days: from conception to age 2 , shape a lifetime of health. Breastfeeding during this crucial period offers lifelong benefits for both baby and mother. Let’s protect and prioritize this crucial journey. 🤱 #Breastfeeding#1000Days#MaternalHealth
Mothers Are Advised to Respect the 1000 Days of Breastfeeding
The first 1000 days from conception to a child’s second birthday, are a golden window for lifelong health. Breastfeeding plays a crucial role in this journey. It offers incredible benefits not just for your baby, but for you as a mother too.
Breast milk is nature’s perfect food for infants. It provides all the nutrients a baby needs to grow strong and healthy while building immunity and protecting against infections and diseases. It also creates a powerful emotional bond between mother and child.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends starting breastfeeding within the first hour after birth and continuing until at least two years of age and beyond, if possible. In Rwanda, the Ministry of Health strongly encourages mothers to begin exclusive breastfeeding immediately after birth. That means only breast milk , no water, no formula, no other foods for the first 6 months.
After 6 months, your baby will need additional nutrition from solid foods, but breast milk should still be part of their daily diet until age two or more.
For working or traveling mothers, expressing and storing breast milk can help ensure your baby continues to receive its benefits even when you’re apart.!
