This week on #HumansOnTheLoop I speak with @andrea_is_a, a Barcelona-based researcher and builder whose guiding mission to is to support the transition to a regenerative civilization aligned with the flows of our planet.
Andrea investigates how digital technologies can accelerate this transition, crafting information ecosystems that reimagine knowledge creation and resource allocation. She is a Bioregional Knowledge Commoning Fellow at r3.0 and currently works at @ReFiBCN, Altiplano Estepario, and the Bioregional Weaving Labs Collective, designing financial strategies that strengthen landscape-scale collaboration.
But her path to this life required some serious unlearning and a rocky road out of her prior incarnation as a healthcare tech product strategist.

🚨 Are we doing AI alignment wrong?
New episode of #HumansOnTheLoop with @emiyazono of Atlas Computing (also, formerly head of research at @protocollabs and fellow @cosmos_inst grantee) in which we explore strategies for provably safe, controllable AI. It's a very different approach.
Some of our topics include regulatory scaling problems, specifying formal organizational charters, the spectre of opacity, and the quantification of trust — all, in some sense, interdisciplinary matters of “game design” in our entanglement with magical technologies and fundamental uncertainty.

Well put. One of the main themes explored in #HumansOnTheLoop is the multi-scale, multi-network reconstitution of selfhood co-arising with digital technologies. In Imaginary Landscape, William Irwin Thompson said mind would be the victim and art project of planetization and Herald reports here from the ground. Robert Kegan saw it coming too, in his book In Over Our Heads: The Mental Demands of Modern Life, tracing roots back to persona management in the industrial era and work/family/social environments.
But the Deleuzian dividual is the real target of surveillance hypercapitalism, not the self-authoring individual of the Enlightenment mythos. We are divided as people because we are divided people. Rebellion won't look like “us vs. them” but finding a deeper wholeness in Self beyond measurable identity.

We live in a time defined by what author, critic, and teacher Howard Rheingold famously described as “tools for thought” — media that expand our minds and enhance our ability to learn and collaborate, both for good and ill. But just because we’re on the Web doesn’t make us “net smart”, another term from Rheingold’s extensive catalogue of pithy idioms.
As anyone with a pocket supercomputer can attest, having information on tap doesn’t necessarily result in better attention management, boost our critical thinking, or confer a greater capacity to engage in prosocial collective action…but we can choose to develop the skills we need to thrive on this electronic frontier. And who better to help us than Rheingold himself, a legendary figure whose reporting and counsel from the frothy edge can teach us all great volumes about how to deepen our humanity in technologically-augmented worlds...
